Thank you very much! Now it runs smoothly. The Python script is not needed any longer as the tool can handle raw audio now by itself. I just didn't know one's file had to be renamed to resource*.

DOSBox is one solution. Its emulation gets quite close to the original OPL2 created music. However, it isn't that close enough to betray my ears. I also think it should be reactivated. It could be a nice feature if your mouse suddenly dies. :) The only issue I found was that up and down key in the launcher were used for both mouse and selecting the list entry. Obviously it was removed between 0.7.1 and 0.8.0 (between 2005-03-27 and 2005-10-29...

You can simply open the file using GoldWave. The shareware version is freely available. If it asks you about the format, you need to select that it is 11025 Hz 8 bit mono.

Ah, it seems I confused something. The thing is that "disable dithering" suggests that a function is disabled rather than a feature is called to have a specific effect on the graphics.
