opengl ES is already working in irrlicht, there are games using irrlicht on iPhone and Android based phones :D

architectural issues with new engine

hi there. i recently started looking into Simon3D as a new engine for residual. not because Simon3D is so good a game (but it aint so horrible either), but rather because it only seems to use 1 proprietary data format for textures/models/scenes (which is documented on the internet), and also most lo...

Re: suggestion: using ffmpeg for future-proof video support

It would probably be an overkill. Why adding support for lots of codecs if just a few are going to be used? That would increase the binary size, reducing the possibility for ResidualVM to be ported to resource-limited platforms. In some cases, the ScummVM approach has been copying the portions of f...

suggestion: using ffmpeg for future-proof video support

while thinking about which engines might be nice to add next, i found that the games from this area and timeframe tend to use a variety of formats for video. AFAIK the workflow of scummvm was to implement new video codecs when needed, but i think the more recent codecs are much more complex than tho...

the following 3d games come to mind: - gabriel knight 3 - broken sword 3 - simon the sorcerer 3d i know all these games are not regarded highly by most adventure gamers, especially simon3. but with a certain amount of masochism and persistence, they can be fun. the general problem i see here: while ...

right, the quality would not rise that much, and CPU would be stressed much more... maybe not that good for ScummVM...

but hey, now that Smacker is supported in ffmpeg maybe this can be supported directly in some time...

hmm, i already wanted to suggest a switch to libtheora. i think this really would make sense. not dropping libmpeg2, but making it an alternative. i could help integrating libtheora if needed...

Is it CDi I am thinking of??? its been a while :) I thought it would use MPEG video for compression as it doubled as a movie player as well or have I lost the plot ;) correct. the CDi was effectively just a (custom format) VCD player with menu capabilities. think of DVD with MPEG1 ;) /EDIT: ok, not...

I don't understand everyone's obsession with MD5'ing everything. A simple size check should be more than sufficient here. I'll add this now. checksums are one of the few magic things which are left to coding. at least as long as you don't really understand what _exactly_ the MD5 procedure is doing :)

big problem with Runaway: it uses Windows Media Video for cutsenes and such, which would be hard to include properly in a portable way, and, if included, could be a legal risk...

hmm. this is somewhat, ahm, badly defined. it could mean MS Word would be illegal, since i could open a manuscript in DOC format written by someone else. and hence it would be the otrher persons data.... this is silly. and the "tracking" thing probably means: "let you software phone h...

Maybe this site will explain it a bit better: http://kickme.to/sdt9000 thanks. this really clearified the issue. OTOH, there are these big standalone players/recorders (looking similar to a standalone tape deck). of course they can record and playback from/to analog ports, but would there be a way ...

i am just informing myself about this SDT-9000, and it seems it is some internal streamer drive. does this mean this thing can read audio data recorded by some DAT Recording device as well as normal files?
