Feel free, if it sounds interesting. A couple of things I would worry about are the memory taken up by the module's symbol table, and I would avoid using position independent code, as it will cause a speed penalty. By the way the rationale behind not supporting this is probably: Old games are small enough. Newer games (talkies) have big files with highly compressible sounds pack : if you compress those with OGG or MP3, ZIPing won't buy you much anyway.
