Re: Widescreen mod
Hi Daniel, thanks for offering your help. The video in question was actually a mockup made in Aftereffects. In other words, it was just trickery and never actually live. Given that Grim Fandango Remastered adds images to the sides of the screen, it feels like it MIGHT be possible, if we could convin...

Re: Digging into the Grim Fandango Remastered files...
Well, it would be fantastic if someone could write such a problem. I'd really appreciate it. There's plenty of textures that still need some love :-/

Re: Digging into the Grim Fandango Remastered files...
That's great news! I can't wait to see this in action. Will it allow us to add our own textures, do you think?
Also: I guess maybe they blocked good_times?

Re: Grim Fandango Remastered being made by Double Fine!
I still think they look like calacas, I was just a bit alarmed at the idea of getting rid of the distinctive boxy shape of the characters, which I'm still fairly sure was intentional - other 3D games from 1998 already had significantly better 3D character models. I think I probably overreacted, tho...

Re: Grim Fandango Remastered being made by Double Fine!
The characters were limited by the technology, not by a desire to stay true to marionettes. You can see this yourself in Peter Chan's wonderful concept artwork. However much you've convinced yourself that the square sleeves are reminiscent of puppets, I think you'd be hard pressed to find one in rea...

Re: Grim Remastered in ResidualVM
What aquadran is trying to say is that, for fear of upsetting LucasArts/Disney/Sony, ResidualVM will very deliberately not be supporting Grim Fandango Remastered any time soon. (Much like ScummVM doesn't support the Monkey Island: Special Editions.) Support in RVM could allow GFR to be played on oth...

Re: Grim Fandango Remastered being made by Double Fine!
Regarding updating the character models: you guys do remember that the skeletal characters were always supposed to look like crude, rectangular puppets, right? They're meant to be calacas! Calacas made from bone? They're inspired by calacas, but they're actual bone (as referenced many times in the ...

Re: Recreating the backgrounds
Every pixel in the zbm encodes the depth as a value for the z-buffer. If you use the exact same (OpenGL) camera settings as the original and fill the z-buffer with the zbm, depth filtering will give the desired effect. https://github.com/residualvm/residualvm/blob/master/engines/grim/shaders/grim_a...

Re: Digging into the Grim Fandango Remastered files...
I've been looking at the files that they use for the new renderer and the l3d files are used to store the lights. they're pretty straight forward and it should be pretty easy to change the lights and add new lights but when i tried to save the lab file using GrimEdi the game doesn't start any more....

Nice! Pretty sure the zbm files are just the masks that Manny walks behind, but I could be wrong.

Re: Digging into the Grim Fandango Remastered files...
They are DDS texture files. I ripped them easily with HyperRipper(included in DragonUnpacker). Yes, you're right. They've placed the DDS texture inside a file format they have possibly created called MCB (might well be Manny Calavera Bytes or something like that). No idea why they would take this e...
