Re: Grim Fandango Remastered being made by Double Fine!
Regarding updating the character models: you guys do remember that the skeletal characters were always supposed to look like crude, rectangular puppets, right? They're meant to be calacas!

You need to put all of the files in the following list in one directory. It can be on a DVD if you really want, or you can copy the whole lot into a directory on /usr/share/scummvm, or wherever your particular OS's equivalent is. I'm not sure if scummvm even supports disc swapping, due to the variou...

I'm sorry, I forgot to mention - my monitor has an aspect ratio of 1.77, so the sidebars are actually added by the screen driver when given a 1.33 signal, not scummvm. The effect was so pronounced, however, especially when playing Nemesis, that I wasn't sure if the game itself wasn't sidebarring a b...

Another probably silly question: is it possible to get a fullscreen view in Zvision games? At the moment, scummvm is using my entire screen, i.e. the save-restore bar drops down from the top, but the actual playfield is letterboxed in the centre of the screen with black bars on all four sides. The p...

Qsound
Awesome! It's so great to play these two classics again! One minor question: the original games had some kind of 3D audio system called Qsound - the source code comments indicate that this doesn't work yet, but are there plans to implement it one day? It's been so long since I played the original ga...

Thoughts on Deponia (big spoilers for most Daedalic titles)
Thought I might find a good number of afficionados of graphic adventures here who'd like to discuss this - who's played Deponia, and what do you think of it, particularly the controversial elements in the later episodes? Technically, graphically, aurally, the game is awesome; Daedalic are top tier w...

I wonder if that's for the CD version - it's noteworthy if AITD is ever added to ScummVM or ResidualVM, as there are specific rules about bypassing copy protection in a ScummVM title - I believe it's only done if at least one original commercial release did it (e.g. just about every LucasArts Scumm ...

Yeah, I had a feeling that would be the case. Linked play is kind of a weird idea for adventure games, as you rightly point out - the real, traditional multiplayer adventure experience consists of 2+ friends clustered in front of the same screen, constantly telling each other that a given suggestion...

ZGI linked play
I gather there are plans to incorporate the Z-vision games into Scummvm over Summer, i.e. Zork Nemesis & Grand Inquisitor. Needless to say, I'm over the moon about this, but I'm curious about one thing: Inquisitor had some kind of two-player network co-op mode in its original incarnation - I don...

People, you're all making this way too complicated. You want to know the real secret to getting old-timey videogame sounds? Square waves. Do everything with square waves, and a couple of noise channels. Seriously, though, getting the right synth hardware (or wavetable) is indeed the way to do it. Th...

Regardless of what kind of gameplay qualifies a game for ScummVM, a boundary that has always been a little blurry, a more fundamental limitation is (unless things have changed since I was last here) that all ScummVM games and their engines are 2D and sprite based. Bioforge is 3D; specifically, it's ...

Well, I'm certainly getting a bit fed up waiting for it to be freewared; I do have an original, legal copy of DWII, but it seems to have succumbed to bitrot in the years since I bought it and now neither disc can be read or even detected in the drive by any machine. I tried making a backup copy once...

I've also been able to go through the whole Domino-Manny conversation on the island, just playing normally, with no bugs; this was on an early release of the game that I borrowed and no longer have access to, unfortunately. I later bought my own copy, but it doesn't work in that one. I would hypothe...
