It'd really suck for anyone who tried to add Space Quest 5 without DRM - the copy protection is actually integrated into the gameplay throughout and you have to enter a code from the manual every single time you want to travel anywhere (The VGA remake of SQ1 also does this, but not to nearly the sam...

Given the current Watchmen thing, I idly wondered if there's been an increased interest in Beneath a Steel Sky - can anyone with access to the download records comment?

Re: Which games would you like to be supported on the future?
I'd really like to see Mission Critical supported - definitely the best non-humourous sci-fi adventure game I ever played. Unfortunately, I gather it's somewhat rare (and that's within a genre that's rare enough as it is!), so I doubt anyone else will either be inclined to work on it any time soon o...

I'm pretty certain the audio data on the second CD is just a bonus, for two reasons. First, dos games that played music from CD tracks simply sent instructions to the CD drive to act like a CD player and dump audio straight into the line input on the soundcard, where it would automatically be amplif...

This is a little out there, but as a compromise, could one theoretically make an audio filter of some kind, possibly along the lines of a vocoder, that mimics the audio effects of the Amiga's sound hardware and makes soundtracks from other systems at least sound like they'd been rendered by an Amiga?

I've played it, and couldn't stand it. It felt like they took a reasonably good but very short game, then stuck it in a blender with an enormous, bland, frustrating one with an obscure, broken interface to try and bulk it out. My biggest complaint is that much of the game is the equivalent of an Inf...

Dryer joke in DOTT
Just for a bit of pedantic fun, I decided to see if the writers of DOTT really bothered to do their maths properly - turns out, they probably did! <implicit puzzle spoiler> Bernard remarks that he reckons the mountain of quarters to be about 876600 dollars worth of quarters - if you divide by the am...

There is a separate project to make an open source Myst/Riven engine, at http://fissure.sourceforge.net/ . They don't seem to have got very far, though, but perhaps linking them here might catch the interest of a few more programmers. I'd love to see that project succeed, but I lack the time and abi...

I'm not optimistic about them making new games; not least because, as far as I know, all the good adventure designers (Schafer et al) left LucasArts years ago. How can they start making them again when all their best adventure talent has been siphoned off and some are now running their own companies...

I'd rather like to play the game and see its slightly more optimistic approach. Be prepared for a certain amount of disappointment; the production quality of the game is extremely variable. Some voice acting is professional-quality, some of it is pure ham. Background art is pretty good, there are a...
