Found the problem. Like I said, embarrassing. I used the original installer, but then I gave the launcher that's been floating around a try. Wasn't keen on having developer mode enabled, so I ditched it and went back to the traditional way. As it turns out, the good_times registry key was still enab...

Grim Fandango: Slightly odd problem

I've got a slightly odd problem regarding GF and the question is rather embarrassing. I've been reading about all the troubles that people have been having. Oddly enough, I have XP with a quad-core system and HD4890 graphic card and I'm having no problems running the game. None. Zero. Zilch. Amazing...

I can also say that it is a fantastic game, in some ways very creepy. You might have a job tracking it down though, as it is extremely rare and sought after. I got lucky, I played it on the Amiga beforehand, but I found it in a secondhand shop here in Paderborn for the princely sum of 2 euros (new c...

Sounds like a misconfigured xorg.conf and your monitor can't do 85Hz at the resolution specified. Try and set the maximum vertical refresh in your xorg.conf to 60Hz which is always a safe bet.

If you have any problems just write back and I'll explain further.

I bought the LucasArts Adventure Pack here in Germany which came with MI1+MI2 on the same CD, IJ:TLC and IJ:FOA on the same CD, MI3 in it's own case (being two discs) and IJ:Infernal Machine in its own case (known as Tower of Babel for whatever reason here in Germany). I guess LucasArts were being s...

The Curse of Monkey Island in German was done really well, and is worth seeing if you speak German even if it's not your native language. I'm half-German, half-British so I speak both, and by a concidence I have both versions of the game as bought Curse in England before buying the LucasArts Adventu...

Of course, then there's jurisdictional questions as well. The DMCA only applies to the United States, and in many countries in the EU it is not illegal to bypass copy protection in the first place, only to distribute unauthorised copies of works. With ScummVM being an international effort, this is a...

I'm not an experienced programmer myself (I do some work in C++ writing my own games, but ScummVM is way beyond my capacity - I use Allegro, and could never write my own sound or graphics code) but wouldn't the open-source SIDPLAY project be a good partner in this respect?

Which original games do you have for ScummVM?

Just curious to know. I'm a games collector so it was by chance that I had a good number of them by the time I stumbled upon ScummVM (freeware downloaded doesn't count): Maniac Mansion (from Day of the Tentacle) Day of the Tentacle (CD version) Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (on CD, but floppy v...

Re: Sound FX in BASS?

The sound effects work for me, but it's possible to turn them off (second button from below in the BASS options dialog). Perhaps you accidentally did that? Nope, I considered that and they're most definitely on. I've just tried switching them "off" in the remote hope that this might make ...

Well, this site offers an MP3 download of the Amiga theme tune (just scroll down to Monkey Island 2) for comparison's sake. I'm just using DOSBox and the aid of a crack (to which I am *not* posting a link, I have a clean conscience because I am using the original game) to make MP3s of the intro song...

The better music...?

I was recently playing Monkey Island 2 using ScummVM and released how poor the music for the DOS version is in comparison to the Amiga version. Is this just because I grew up with it on the Amiga or is this more a popular opinion? By the way - thank gawd for ScummVM. I lost my MI2 wheel and couldn't...

Sound FX in BASS?

I don't know if it's just my PC being awkward but I recently noticed that no sound FX are being played in BASS. Music and speech are fine, but I noticed when I stepped on the elevator in the first part of the game that there were no sound effects - the same applies to the crusher in the room on the ...

Why would you want the floppy version when the CD versions of both games are available for around 20 euros? And if you prefer the floppy version without Chris Barrie's annoying voiceover, ScummVM lets you turn the talkie-version off. Don't quote me on this by the way, but with Simon the Sorceror 4 c...
