Re: Recreating the backgrounds

Cool, thanks for the info, but what is necessary to remove it? Original files :) It would be 2 sec job to re-export scenes in high-res & widescreen & full 32-bit colours... but not even DoubleFine has all the source files. Or at least they said so in first "Re-making GF" episode o...

Re: Grim Fandango Remastered being made by Double Fine!

At first glance, I thought the shadows on the wall were an advanced lighting effect - oh well :) What's the estimated release date? Maybe it's just that at this stage they have artists working on new models, and the backgrounds need rerendering, or more work in the engine, but the textures were an e...

Re: Double Fine is making Grim Fandango Remastered!

We built it on 386s and a week after we released it, 486s came out and broke a bunch of the puzzles Seems to be a little confusion there. WP says the 486 came out in '89. Either he's confused about the processor or the game. Maybe the Pentium III (or Monkey Island)? Keeping it 4:3 is a bold decisio...

The contents of the console window can be found in the residualvm.log. On my computer, that's in C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\ResidualVM\Logs\residualvm.log.

(If you open in Notepad you may not see any linebreaks, so it would be better to use Wordpad or something.)

Typos in game text?

Hi, I was wondering if ScummVM had a general policy on fixing typos in game data text? (I think it's been discussed, but I can't remember if a verdict was reached. I know about the infamous "Choas" case, but in general I can imagine it might not be desirable to litter the source code with ...

Just to say, I agree now about the problems with point-and-click. You can see straight away from the opening screen with the message tube: http://www.residualvm.org/data/screenshots/lec/grim/grim_0-full.png Much of the office floor is completely obscured by the desk and chairs. And the more interest...

I just meant running the gfupd101 file, whether that informs you if the game is already patched.

If the game is already patched, would running the patch cause an error? That might be another handy litmus.

I've often wondered whether partial 3D models could be generated from the existing zbuffers? The information there could be used to detect roughly coplanar regions, which can be converted into polygons (or partially transparent quads or something). There would be the additional challenge of mapping ...

I think it could be argued that controlling Manny with the keyboard/joypad is perhaps an element that sacrifices usability for diegesis.. EDIT: and a mouse interface might actually serve to improve diegesis. Maybe instead of giving textual overlays, it would be more diegetic to just have a cursor (E...

I see, so this project's mainly geared towards changing the engine to do more work with existing data. Is it areas with no valid depth you're taking about? Maybe those bits could be redrawn or extrapolated? Or as a backup, can it use nearby walkboxes or something? (That's originally what I thought y...

(Hi. Long-time listener..) Regarding point-and-click: is it just an (x, z) coordinate needed? Could that potentially be found by taking the value of the background's depth buffer at the (x, y) position? Labels are an interesting idea.. Some care may need to be taken with the label names. I can't rem...
