Loom PC-CD does this - there is a single CD audio track which contains all of the speech.

There has been one instance, actually - EA apparently released the first C&C:Red Alert as freeware ISOs as a promo for C&C:RA3.

Well, it hasn't expired any "licensing laws" in the UK or the USA. At the very least it will still fall under copyright which will exist until at least 50 years after the death of the creators (frequently 70 years plus) Additionally if you want to encourage eBay to do something about it, j...

And in MI2 it's possible to have a very varied number of pieces of eight since you can polish the peg leg of the dude from the Men of Low Moral Fibre, and he'll give you one piece of eight...

As ever, support for new games would require either the source code (and lots of time from dedicated volunteers), or tons of enthusiasm (and many, many more buckets of time from dedicated volunteers) to make the magic happen. I'd say Fable looks like it might be in scope for ScummVM, but Shadowgate ...

It depends on the game and the hardware you have handy. I used to have an AMD Sempron 2200 machine running Win98, and later WinXP, but I had to completely max it out to run Worms United properly.

The later games that run in DOS do tend to have slightly higher requirements, I've noticed.

A regular game that works in 2D or (like a lot of LucasArts games) pseudo-3D) works by taking 2D images and scaling them etc. depending on where on the screen this happens. As Guybrush walks further 'back', for example, the sprite is made smaller. It's not particularly clever, it simply does a scali...

This all assumes, of course, that the code doesn't truncate it upon trying to log in anyhow.

I've found a few games, but they tend to be little online quirky things rather than any of the big name games. FPS? I haven't found one I actually liked since Doom. RTS? Dune II: Battle for Arrakis, or on a rare off moment the first C&C. (Though C&C: Red Alert - the first one - appears to ha...

I suspect the answer is "it depends." From what I gather, ScummVM uses the standard APIs for accessing the filesystem, which means if you convince the operating system to accept a networked path as another drive, then yes it would be doable. Under Windows, you'd use the Map Network Drive o...

Well, I know for a long time Back To The Roots has had all of the Infocom games available, and from what I gather the permission to make these available was granted by Activision themselves, over and above the original licenses. The downloads from Activision for Zork were purely on the basis of prom...

I'd suggest copying the game from the CD to your hard-drive and playing from there. It sounds a bit like the script is having trouble progressing, which might be due to a dirty disc or CD drive.

AFAIK there are only sounds in the disk version during the intro only for both games.

How big are the monster.sou/monster.sog/monster.so3 files?

Are you playing directly from the CD? If so, you may find performance improves if you copy all the datafiles to your computer's hard-drive and use that.

The list of required data files can be found here.
