Just been reading about more about the Midi, am I right in saying it was not just used in the gaming/computer world? Composers and musicians always been the main audience for MIDI, and still is. Thanks, what is your opinion personally on the direction gaming has taken (including sound)? For me ther...

Thanks reckless will do, I've such fond memories of the first time getting MI2 booting up when I was about 8. I actually remember scrolling through the audio options and seeing things like 'sound-blaster' etc, I never had no ideal of how big the sound world was. I think if I would of hooked up a Rol...

I see, thanks, Can you personally hear a difference between using Munt Emu and using Roland Midi Device? edit: been reading up a bit more, I can see now there is quite a big difference between the 2; sierrahelp.com/Utilities/Emulators/Munt.html Quick question, is using the MT-32 midi module essentia...

So if you buy a Korg synth and a Yamaha synth and both support General MIDI, it still won't sound the same. Same with soundcards, although that difference was larger back in the DOS days as soundfonts are used now instead of the hardware itself. Many thanks for reply, starting to make sense now. I ...

Well later Sound cards had, Roland equivalent, MIDI support built in. Earlier card had a wavetable port that allowed you to connect a General MIDI module. There were tons of options, Roland, Yamaha and Creative all had one. I guess in the beginning it was simply to complex / expensive to accomplish...

A midi player is just a program that plays midi files. Like a dos version of media player that can only play midi files :) Maybe you need MIDI device or MIDI module? That's what the Roland MT-32 is. Yes sorry, I did mean Midi device. So,the sound card sends the info to the speakers/output etc. But,...

What made old 'sound' so good - and why is it hard to get?
Hi all,
I've herd a lot of talk about one of the things people miss with the classic games is the sound.
I've herd terms like 'midi' and roland' come up alot. Why is it with all the 'next-gen' speakers and soundcards we can't replicate that sound now?

CorsixTH - An open source clone of Theme Hospital hits beta
Second beta release of CorsixTH After three months of development since the previous release, we are proud to present CorsixTH beta 2. The aim of this release is to give a report of our progress and attract more players and (hopefully) contributors to the project. Since beta 1, a great number of ne...

Just played BS Directors cut for first time!
Hi all, Despite being a big Broken Sword fan I've only just got round to playing the 'Directors Cut' version. I'm actually really impressed with how they made it. I'm normally put off by anything 'revival' or 'lets jump on a successful franchise bandwagon for £££'s' but this version is an exception....

The original games features subtitles during gameplay, but unfortunately not during cutscenes. I had the luck that most of the subtitles we used were included in a ressource file of the game (thought not always in a linear order), although they aren't accessed at all. The ones that weren't there ha...
