The "developer's intent" isn't always 4:3, even if ideally it should be. For instance, Without AR correction: http://images.shoutwiki.com/thecrankyhermit/1/11/Basswide.png With AR correction: http://images.shoutwiki.com/thecrankyhermit/2/29/Bass43.png So really, I think you do need to look...

Gabriel Knight 1: Any difference between DOS /Windows ver?

I noticed that ScummVM 2.0 supports both versions. What's the difference, as far as ScummVM is concerned?

Monkey Island was originally EGA, and converted to VGA later. The EGA version doesn't have any moon in the sky, but there are other circular objects usable as reference points. https://i.imgur.com/dCTxTt8.png https://i.imgur.com/SVh0hNk.png Both of these look better to me with correction than withou...

From playing around, I don't think these settings do anything at all! From what I can tell, [Audio]->[Preferred Device] and [MT-32]->[True Roland MT-32] are responsible for the entire MIDI rendering path. Take Day of the Tentacle, a game with AdLib, MT-32 MIDI, and GM. If [Preferred Device] isn't a ...

These are all global options. You can set "GM Device" and "MT-32 Device" independently of "Preferred Device." But I don't understand what this accomplishes.

Can someone clarify the MIDI & MT-32 tab options?

I am more or less familiar with how MIDI works. I know the difference between Adlib, MT-32, and GM. But I am confused about the ScummVM MIDI & MT-32 options tabs. Specifically, what do "GM Device" and "MT-32 Device" actually do? There's already a "Preferred Device" ...

Anyone want to peer review my article on early LucasArts?

There's a project I've been working on for a couple of months, that I called "Gaming Appreciation 101." The gist of it is it's a 50 chapter textbook on the history of video games, with the focus on games that are very high quality, important to the development of games, and relatively acce...

Thanks for that info. So, now I know the following: Sam & Max Hit the Road is definitely GM-based. Day of the Tentacle might be GM-based, but probably isn't. Everything newer is digital-based. Everything older is probably too old to be GM-based. Now my list looks like this: Maniac Mansion - Amig...

The General MIDI games specifically sound best on the Roland SC-55. Thanks, but which ones are GM games? DOTT seems to have native GM support, BTW. On the CD, in the DOTT directory, there is a file "GMIDI.IMS" which probably implies native GM support. There is also "ADLIB.IMS" &...

I really think you're making this issue a lot more complicated than it needs to be, but "what was the target platform of the music when it was composed/transcribed" would be a good starting place. Here's two questions. I think they are simple and objective. 1: Was Day of the Tentacle compo...

I am not sure whether you really think that's the best music standard... I am not sure why you ask us about it either, everyone has its own personal feelings about what's "best". I would have thought it would be more or less objective. Take Conquests of the Longbow, for instance. I have b...

What is the best music standard for each LucasArts game?

I've got an MT-32, a Roland Virtual Sound Canvas, and I'm planning on doing a LucasArts marathon with the best possible music standard for each game. Here's what I *think* is best: Maniac Mansion - IBM PCJr Zak McKracken - Digital (FM-Towns CD) Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade - Digital (FM-Towns ...

nagi doesnt have 256 colour support
nagi doesnt have palette support
Are there actually any Sierra AGI games where these are useful? I thought that all of Sierra's AGI games used the same 16-color palette.
