Re: Missing wintermute.zip

When starting the white chamber (which I had in my backlog for ages) in Scummvm on archlinux compiled with the latest code from master, it notifies the absence of wintermute.zip. Can't find this standalone file anywhere on this site. It should be part of the ScummVM source code: dists/engine-data/w...

Re: Replacement for "What is" in the first generation of SCUMM

I hoped to find something like this pseudo-code: MouseOver(object) { if (SCUMMGame._version > 3 || verb=="What is") UpdateSentenceWith(object); else // do nothing } The point I was trying to make was that you'd probably only find one small part of the puzzle in the ScummVM C++ code. The e...

Re: Replacement for "What is" in the first generation of SCUMM

Q1: Is there an easy way how to change it? I dug through the source code of SCUMMVM and it seems it is handled somewhere in engines\scumm\input.cpp, but I have not found the exact spot yet. Is there already a custom build that does that? If I understand things correctly the "what is" feat...

Re: How to backup scummvm and all games

Can someone please give me detailed instructions on how to backup scummvm games that are already installed on scummvm? Thanks! I'm a newcomer so, not sure how to proceed. Much appreciation!! I haven't done this myself, and I'm not on Windows, but I guess the two most important things to find are th...

Re: Restore Music Bug: Simon the Sorcerer

I actually like the "bugged" tracks in Simon the Sorcerer that ScummVM played in older versions; is there any way to restore them to that state? I don't remember what you mean by the older "bugged" tracks. The only thing I can think of is playing the MT-32 music without remappin...

I believe the versions of AGS used for Kathy Rain (pre-Director's cut) and Whispers of a Machine are on GitHub: https://github.com/josthas?tab=repositories

But I don't know how different they are compared to the version ScummVM implements.

Re: There's that name again. Matia. What's going on here?

Unfortunately while Russian versions of "Reah" and "Schizm" launch fine, the text is not readable. GOG's version of Schizm includes Russian subtitles (enabled by changing the game's language setting), and those seem to work. At least to my untrained eye. scummvm-00005.png scummv...

Re: DREAMM - The Best LucasArts Emulator? (Another Conversation with Aaron Giles)

I think it would be great if places like GOG and Steam bundled DREAMM with the LucasArts games, because then they'd be forced to include the original executables (not just the data files, as they sometimes do) as well. Because without those there is, of course, no way to ever compare ScummVM to the ...

Re: MT-32 Emulation Sounds Weird

Also of interest, this does not seem to happen in ScummVM 2.6.1 (even with MIDI Gain set to 3.03). ScummVM 2.7.0 and 2.8git dailies do have the issue. There was indeed a regression caused by a Sam & Max-related commit made about half a year ago. A fix for this was committed earlier today. (Not ...

Wild guess, but one possibility is if you've cranked up the "MIDI gain" so much that the sound is clipping. (Which would also account for the overall loudness of the audio.)

Re: DOS games with Amiga sound

Is there any possibility to swap music from Amiga version or I just need to get Amiga version and run it instead? For example Indy Atlantis? I don't have the Amiga version of Fate of Atlantis (come to think of it, I own hardly any Amiga versions) but judging by longplays on YouTube, for this partic...

Re: Dart game at Holmes Scalpel game

I have some difficulties with the dart game in the pub. Can you somehow skip this? I don't want to play that thing! After all, this is an adventure and not a skill game if it is not possible to skip, maybe there is a game for it? :?: Yes there is. As long as you're playing on a PC (or Mac as well p...

Re: Game Requests (Mostly Scholastic)

Beavis and Butthead Do-U Apparently that one uses the same engine as Duckman: The Graphic Adventures of a Private Dick, but I have no idea how much is missing for it to actually be supported. (Probably quite a bit, since there is so little mention of it.) And there hasn't been much activity on that...

Re: Amazon: Guardians of Eden

No, it doesn't. The sub-engine for Amazon is based on a disassembly I did of a PC CD talkie version I had, as I recall. As far as I can remember, I never saw any special code for a SuperVGA mode in it. So it may have been dropped for that release. My CD version, as well as the one GOG sells, have t...

Re: Simon the Sorcerer - Merge Talkie with Subtitles

I don't know much about AGOS, the engine that powers Simon the Sorcerer, but I thought the subtitles were baked into the game scripts themselves, i.e. not separated from the game logic. Which would imply that there's no subtitles file that can just be replaced. I don't have the anniversary edition, ...
