Fantastic. Any idea if there's any common engine between the original an its sequel, the dissapointing DOS-SVGA-configuration-nightmare that was Big Red Adventure?

Here's a review.

I've never had a problem finishing Indy 3 on OS X, so I'm not sure what the Grail Text reference is about. You will need your original Grail Diary from the box though, if you're to have any hope of finishing the game.

I think he's suggesting creating an 'official' build of ScummVM which would only run PC games on the PC platform, thereby picking around PayPal's wording, with the multiplatform functionally annexed into a seperate 'sideproject' called ScummVM+. All of which sounds like it would take a lot of time w...

Thank you muchly! I would have sworn I checked the Fink FAQ

I note this also means that I don't have to feed prefix dirs to Configure ScummVM builds. Now to see if I can get this DXA coding to work!

Problems compiling SVN tools on OS X PPC + Fink

I've managed to decode the Broken Sword smacker files into PNG + WAV using Virtual PC (which was actually incredibly fast - presumably because it was writing 1000+ png files to RAM rather than to a physical harddrive), and now I'm trying to compile the latest tools to use encode_dxa. SVN Revision 23...

Yeh, it's in 4:3 with black borders on each side of the screen. Sounds good to me! I have a PowerMac G4 hooked up to a cheap Acer 19 inch widescreen TFT, and it just smears the graphics output across the full screen regardless of whether I want it to. Let's save the dev team some time, and swap mac...

FYI, you're talking about FM synthesis, not MIDI. All FM-Towns models are equiped with a YM2612, same soundchip as the Mega Drive. It's not a bad processor, but it's not exactly as good as a YM3812 (fewer channels than AdLib, and the sound emulation itself is a bit rough compared to a real machine)...

To the best of my knowledge, the only FM-Towns versions that offer any advantages are Zak McKracken and Loom (256 colour graphics, CD audio) and Indy 3 (CD audio). The FM Towns few attempts at midi synthesis (the kazoo in Zak, the Venice theme or the piano playing in Indy) are physically painful. I ...

So is it running in 4:3 and leaving most of your screen blank, or is it stretching the image to fill the screen and looking a bit ugly?

I played through The Dig using the SVN version a few weeks ago. A bit of a curate's egg of a game, and the guides at GameFAQs are fairly awful.

ScummVM played it perfectly, but couldn't fix the fractured mess of a game created by that development process.

Amusingly, a few of them run better than they did in the original interpreters (even if you ignore the graphics filters and sound modes), but still only get 95%.

Will you be posting new versions of the Sword 1/Sword 2 cutscenes in DXA format in time for the next release?

Can I do DXA encoding on the Mac, or is it Windows only at the moment?

I'm running OSX Tiger on a Powermac hooked up to a 1440x900 display, and I also can't work out a way to run fullscreen without everything being squashed into the wrong aspect ratio. I presume this is a monitor problem, though - checking on the OSD, it says it is receiving a 640x480 input, but it's c...

Re: Optimal options

Graphics filters are very subjective - just have a fiddle and see what you like. The HQ filters are supposed to smooth without blurring, but I find them so horribly blurry that I compile ScummVM without them (which shaves a fair bit off the compile time, to boot). AdvMame2x is my filter of choice. A...
