Trouble with Broken Sword 2 Smoking Mirror

Post by sl23 »

According to the compatibility list, this should work. I have the PS1 disc files:
Broken Sword 2 - The Smoking Mirror [SLUS-00812].ccd
Broken Sword 2 - The Smoking Mirror [SLUS-00812].img
Broken Sword 2 - The Smoking Mirror [SLUS-00812].sub

I have extracted the IMG and SUB files, and placed them in a single root directory. I have the Streams folder containing the videos but have tried moving those to the root folder too. Nothing seems to work. I get ERROR: PSX Stream Sector.

I know this ROM works as it works fine if played with Bizhawk as a Ps1 game. The trouble is the cursor moves really slowly and you have to use the D-Pad on a controller to move it. The ScummVM games only use a mouse afaik, so I would rather play this using ScummVM.

I know it's likely something I am doing wrong, but I just can't work out what it is. I've tried searching the forum and web, but found no answer. Can anyone give me some advice please.

Do I need the ScummVM Tools? Not sure what they are for? Or maybe Libraries?

Thanks. :)

could you list your root dir and post it here?

where does that PSX stream error happen/come from?
during copying/ripping from the psx cd?

did you try to add the game in scummvm?

Oh yes, sorry, that was a poor explanation!
It extracts everything but I don't know if all the files are present. That could be why. The game is recognised by ScummVM, but on launch it gives the error.

Files I have are:

Code: Select all

Broken Sword 2 - The Smoking Mirror [SLUS-00812].wav - This is just computer noise though?

It's ok, It seems to work now. I found the games wiki page and got the jpsxdec app to extract the video files.
Fwiw, ISOBuster won't extract until you purchase it.
Thanks to the devs for supplying great help pages!

Thanks, but it seems I spoke too soon!

I escaped the burning room, went to the cafe and I assume the cutscene after the cafe section is causing another crash. Same error as before. Any idea what could be causing this?

Thanks.

you could run scummvm with the -d5 switch, this will print more debug info to the console.

once you know which cutscene is the culprit, try to play it with jPSXdec...maybe the conversion went wrong?

You were right ! It was a faulty extracted cutscene. I found two: STONE1.STR which appears to be the game position where it crashed, and the DUMMY.STR, is that one required? I replaced both and checked the extraction with jPSXdec, but the game still crashes at the same point, at the cafe where Andre places the stone on the table.

Here's the last part of the log that includes the error:

Code: Select all

generateZipSet: Loaded pack file: shaders.dat
FSDirectory::createReadStreamForMember('stone1.str') -> 'D:\Documents\Games\ScummVM\Broken Sword 2 - The Smoking Mirror\STONE1.STR'
Unhandled multi-track video!
Debugger started, type 'exit' to return to the game.
Type 'help' to see a little list of commands and variables.
ERROR: Unhandled multi-track video!

Reported DPI: 96 default: 96, ratio 1, clipped: 1
Setting 960 x 719 -> 960 x 719 -- 1
Reported DPI: 96 default: 96, ratio 1, clipped: 1
Setting 960 x 719 -> 960 x 719 -- 1
I checked every extracted cutscene for errors and there were only two as I said. I re-extracted them and selected RAW format.
Do you have any further suggestions?

Thanks.

ERROR: Unhandled multi-track video!

thats your blocker.

no idea though why this happens.

hope there'll be a dev with some time on their hand to look at this.

but anyway you could join the discord
https://discord.com/invite/4cDsMNtcpG
and report it as a bug on hhe tracker
https://bugs.scummvm.org/

it probably won't be a quick solution, but at least the devs are alerted
