debug console return to launcher

I may be misunderstanding things, but I was under the impression that the two commands
quit
and exit
does different things?

quit is for quitting scummvm
exit for returning to launcher (closing debug console)

is that correct?

because then exit is not working, as I'm always thrown back to the system with scummvm quitting completely

any idea what I could try to catch what's going on?
