ScummVM 2.9.0 release notes told us
MM:
Added MT32/LAPC-1 support for Xeen engine.
I tested true Roland MT-32 hardware for Might and Magic IV: Clouds of Xeen (DOS/English) but failed. No MT-32 Sound, just Soundblaster (or something else).
Game files are (from GOG Might and Magic 6 Limited Edition):
XEEN.CC
XEEN.DAT
MM.DAT (from scummvm-2.9.0)
Did i miss something?

Re: Xeen engine MT-32 support
I'm pretty sure you did, just to rule out the obvious...did you set your midi hardware to be used in the audio tab of scummvm instead of default (adlib)?
Re: Xeen engine MT-32 support
Hardware is set up properly (USB-MIDI-Interface[ALSA] on a Debian/Ubuntu system). No problems with other MT-32 related games (Space Quest III, Rise of the Dragon) using ScummVM. Also no problem to run MM4 on DOSBox with MT-32 hardware.
But all tests with games supported from the Xeen engine failed.
There are no MIDI messages on my USB-MIDI-Interface.

Re: Xeen engine MT-32 support
For what is worth, I believe this is the relevant PR for this feature support:
https://github.com/scummvm/scummvm/pull/5660
There's some info in the description about which devices (real or emulated) should be supported.
