Hi, I'm an new member here and I've just discovered that the Feeble Files has been included *yay!*
Thing is I have the 2 CD Windows version, but I can't seem to find all the files listed in the files list.

3.13) The Feeble Files notes:
----- -----------------------
If you have the Windows version of The Feeble Files, there are several things
to note.
Many of the files necessary for the game are stored in an InstallShield file
called data1.cab, which ScummVM is unable to unpack. You will need to use the
original installer or i5comp to unpack the contents of this file.
The game uses Smacker cutscenes extensively, which we can't support directly,
due to reasons described above. The cutscenes have to be re-encoded to DXA,
which is the format used by the cutscenes in the Amiga and Macintosh versions.
taken from the Tools Readme
See the tools README for a brief guide on converting the cutscenes.
The original speech files will need to be renamed, to use with ScummVM.
Rename voices.wav on CD1 to voices1.wav
Rename voices.wav on CD2 to voices2.wav
Rename voices.wav on CD3 to voices3.wav
Rename voices.wav on CD4 to voices4.wav
Taken from the Tools Readme...
Encoder Tools:
encode_dxa <prefix> <directory>
Creates DXA file out of extracted Smacker video.
To extract a video use RAD Game Tools and perform 2 passes
on it. For example, if your video is called 'intro.smk'.
1. Extract the video to PNG, 256 colors (choose PNG format
and tick the checkbox). It will create bunch of files named
'introXXX.png', where XXX is frame number. Make sure you have
extracted 256 colors PNGs, otherwise encode_dxa will complain.
2. Extract the audio to WAV format, you will get an
'intro.wav' file.
3. Put files 'intro.smk', 'intro.wav' and 'intro*.png' into a
single directory.
4. Run `encode_dxa intro` in that directory
5. You will get an intro.dxa file and intro.flac/mp3/ogg file
in result.
Additionally you may use batch processing mode of SMK files in
RAD Game Tools. Just select more than one file and push the
'Convert' button. It will ask you either you want them
processed in batch mode and will do this for you. All buttons
and conversion options work the same.
There is an example batch file on page 8 on this thread, so off you go
This script worked fine except for the "Get Car.smk", notice the space in the name, cannot open Get was the error message when binkconv was run. I renamed it to GetCar.smk for the conversion and then renamed the dxa and the fla with a space in the filename.deadagain wrote:1. I'm using this simple script (as posted here in various forms) to convert the movies.
for %%i in (*.smk) do binkconv.exe %%i %%~ni.png /n-1 /z1 /#
for %%i in (*.smk) do binkconv.exe %%i %%~ni.wav /v /#
for %%i in (*.smk) do encode_dxa.exe --flac --best -b 1152 %%~ni
How about including this and the one for linux in the readme? It would probably make it easier for people trying to batch-convert...
Hi....I'm new
I'm a complete newbie and had the longest message ever(since i didn't understand anything. however, i tought myself a thing or two using this super thread). just deleted it because i found out most of what I need is right under my nose.
this is the edit from my original message, reffering to the encoding part:
I kind of got exahausted... is there a quicker way to do this? right now i'm only in disk1's smk files, and as I understood I'm supposed to convert them 1 file at a time(to png, to wav and then to mp3 and dxa).
any tips of making it faster? and by the way - it takes a whole lot of space!(i copied the entire disk1 to my computer... is it neccesary or i just did it because i thought i needed to? is it neccesary to install the FF?)
thanks in advance,
Doron Snapiri
p.s. you'd think that Israelis would have better things to do at this times, weren't you?

Another point I have to critisize is that the user is forced to use .dxa files. In earlier version it just skipped the .dxa files and printed a message in the debugger window. That way it was possible to play the game without cutscene converting. The cutscenes mentioned in ScummVM, I simply watched with RADVideoTools. Maybe you weren't aware of this, so could you please reinsert this possibility?
It would be great for all who don't have a large disk and have problems (or don't have the time) with converting the movies.

The reason the cutscenes aren't optional in ScummVM, is because the cutscenes are required to complete some sections of the game. The mini games in the arcade and the shooting sequences for example.SimSaw wrote:Another point I have to critisize is that the user is forced to use .dxa files. Re: Hi....I'm new
There are scripts in this thread & other feeble files threads that will help to automate the process of converting however many files you want at a time (1 disk at a time or all the files etc).dsnapiri wrote: is there a quicker way to do this? right now i'm only in disk1's smk files, and as I understood I'm supposed to convert them 1 file at a time(to png, to wav and then to mp3 and dxa).

Look through the thread and try it out, if you've ever used the commandline/batchfiles you should be able to figure it out, if not ask again with you specific problem.
Can't help with the space issue ofcourse...
alrigty then.
Thanks for the quick responses.
"if you've ever used the commandline/batchfiles"
commandline of the start menu? Iv'e used it a bit, but only for REGEDIT, CMD and MSCONFIG.
about batchfiles i dont know scrap.
another problem: I don't know how to use scripts, or what they actually are.
2 questions I still need answers on:
1. Do I need to install the FF? (or can I just use an extra folder with the data1.cab unzipped or however you call it.
2. Do I need to copy the entire CD's of FF or are the SMK files are enough?
thanks a lot!

Re: alrigty then.
Installing the game was the only way I could find to extract the contents from data1.cab, but if you can find a program to do it, that should work too.dsnapiri wrote:1. Do I need to install the FF? (or can I just use an extra folder with the data1.cab unzipped or however you call it.
The game data files page has lists of the data files ScummVM needs for each game. Note that * is a 'wildcard' that matches any string, so TABLES* means TABLES01, TABLES02, etc. Several of the data files are hidden away inside that data1.cab file.dsnapiri wrote:2. Do I need to copy the entire CD's of FF or are the SMK files are enough?
And, as has already been mentioned, the SMK files need to be re-encoded to work with ScummVM.
Hello
Here is a script that allows you to convert all the smk files one by one without a huge harddrive. The interest is that it extracts the png from only one file at a time.
You have a source and a target folder so that you can interrupt the process and continue it later.
To do this you need to create two files:
1) dxa.bat (don't forget to edit the variables):
@echo off
rem Feeble Files smk->dxa batch convertor
echo Setting environment variables...
SET TOOLS_PATH=D:\Jeux\ScummVM\tools
SET BINK_PATH=C:\Program Files\RADVideo
SET SMK_PATH=D:\Jeux\ScummVM\feeble\smk
SET DXA_PATH=D:\Jeux\ScummVM\feeble\dxa
for %%i in (%SMK_PATH%\*.smk) do call smk2dxa "%%i"
echo Converting finished!
2) smk2dxa.bat:
@echo off
echo Processing %1...
"%BINK_PATH%\BinkConv.exe" %1 "%SMK_PATH%\%~n1.png" /n-1 /z1 /#
"%BINK_PATH%\BinkConv.exe" %1 "%SMK_PATH%\%~n1.wav" /v /#
"%TOOLS_PATH%\encode_dxa.exe" --vorbis "%SMK_PATH%\%~n1"
echo Deleting temp files
del "%SMK_PATH%\%~n1*.png"
del "%SMK_PATH%\%~n1.wav"
move "%SMK_PATH%\%~n1.*" "%DXA_PATH%"
You just have to run dxa.bat to convert the files
