Stuck in Maniac Mansion
I just played Maniac Mansion again tonigt. I got stuck because I used the paint remover on the unfinished painting in the drawing room, which seems to destroy the paint remover. Is there another way to get to the damaged cables behind the hidden door, or another way to get the Code for the door to the lab?

If you electrocute Jeff (I think that's his name--surfer dude?) in the pool, he'll say the code numbers. If that's no good for you, check out GameFAQs for all your walkthrough needs.
Thank you! But how do I do that? I actually picked Jeff in the beginning, so I could, but I tried to fill the Pool, while he is down there but I don't get the combination. Unfortunately everything on GameFAQs seems to use the cable-repair way. Perhaps I should just start over, and this time not waste the Paint Remover.

Geez, I don't know. I could swear I've done it but it was years ago, and I'm having so much trouble finding it online that I'm starting to wonder if I imagined the whole thing. I think it has to do with the batteries... maybe put good batteries in the radio, turn it on, then fill the pool? You can kill people by filling the pool the wrong way--I think you have to cut power to the reactor, too? Sorry, it's just been so long...

Nope, it's possible to get youself completely screwed in MM. If you really want to tear your hair out, try Zak McKraken and the Alien Mind-Benders--that one lets you mess up early in the game and find out only near the end that it's unwinnable! Those two were their first games and they were still working some kinks out, I guess. Still, nothing beats a good run through Maniac Mansion... not Day of the Tentacle, not even Sam and Max.
Yes, it's good that MM is not that long, otherwise it would really be annoying. But Zak was long, wasn't it? It's really a long time since the last Time I played that. But right now I started DOTT omce again.
By the way, turning the radio on, and then filling the pool was not possible in my savegame, because I couldn't put the batteries back in. So I still don't know if that works.

Was this supposed to be a joke to see if anyone would really drown Jeff with the radio turned on to see if he'd say the numbers? B/c...I just tried it and all he said was "Glug!"x4 like usual.
I'm pretty sure I've played this game every way it can be played but I'm interested in learning something new.

I've been trying to work out this 'shock jeff' thing for years. It's mentioned in the hint poster originally shipped with the game that Jeff momentarily became psychic and gave out winning lottery numbers when he recieved an electric shock, but I can't seem to find any way to get it to work either. Hmmm.
You could try to get Jeff touching the bare electric wires, up in the room above Edna's room. I think you get an electric shock then.Tinhead Ned wrote:It's mentioned in the hint poster originally shipped with the game that Jeff momentarily became psychic and gave out winning lottery numbers when he recieved an electric shock
But maybe, the hint poster just intended to give you a very subtle hint that you have to fix the electric wires in that room before you are able to turn on the light in the safe room in order to read the tiny inscribed number combination.
