No voices in DOTT on Nokia E50 (SymbianS60v3)

Post by albert »

Hello everybody,

First of all I want to thank everybody that is working on scummVM. I'm using it in Linux (0.8.2 debian), Symbian (0.9.0) and sometimes a bit windows (0.9.0). So far I have tried "FATE" and "TENTACLE" on the Symbian. Fate works with voices and music on all of them. The "tentacle" works on both linux and windows, but does not play the voices on the Symbian. I used the same files for all of them.

I could not find a way to fix this specific problem after searching this forum and the rest of the web. That's why I'm asking it here :D.

What I did try was removing all the unnecessary files and copying the files to the phone a couple of times to make sure nothing was corrupt. I placed all the files on a 1Gb microSD card.

Ow yeah, the E50 is not in the wiki yet, but I didn't encounter problems yet (except for this one ofcourse). I will post my experience with some games here if there are people that want that.

PS I am realy in favour of making it possible to map the 9 commands (push, pull, pick up, open etc) to the numbers 1-9 on the phone 'keyboard'. I saw a sourceforge tracker item listed.

Just remember.. Your S60v3 device DO not support MP3 audio right now, so compress to ogg audio if you want a compressed talkie version.

Some commands are already mapped. Should ideally be mapped per game. But I guess I can make a common map. i.e for different games numbers 1-9 should map to different letters.

Thanks for the hint. I'll try to convert it and let you know if it works.

It works

Yes, Ogg works. Thanks.

What I still do not understand is that the music DID work. Even though it was mp3 encoded. Did you mean that ScummVM for S60v3 doesn't support mp3 or the OS itself doesn't support mp3?

Not all music are wav/mp3, but are using emulated soundchips, and that will always be heard. Usually old games are a mix of different sound sources.

S60v3 devices do support MP3 files, for example the MP3 version of Beneath A Steel Sky works fine on the Nokia E61.

Anotherguest is quite right, I was using the normal version of Sky, it wasn't an MP3 version after all.

Sorry!
