Monkey Island 2 - Can I skip copy protection?

Post by Sertile »

Hey, I ripped MI2 from my Monkey Madness CD, and I'm wondering if there's some way I can skip the "Lame-o Copy Protection" screen. I have to input a code before it'll even let me access the save/load menu.

Take a look at the Read Me, section 3.1: Copy Protection.

Should answer your question. =)

Thanks... but it didn't. The readme says:

"ScummVM will skip copy protection in the following games:

Maniac Mansion
Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (EGA)
Loom (EGA)
The Secret of Monkey Island (EGA)
The Secret of Monkey Island (VGA)
Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge"

However, ScummVM does not skip the copy protection screen. I still have to enter random codes before I can access my F5 menu.

Read again; it says it skips the protection, not the protection screen.

I don't know much about the SCUMM engine, but I do recall there is some issue with skipping this screen altogether... something about the difficulty selection screen then being skipped as well (which, of course, would be undesirable) - or something to that effect.

Perhaps one of the SCUMM engine maintainers can explain it better.

That's the extent to which ScummVM skips the copy protection. In some releases, the original interpreter skips it entirely (I don't know exactly how), but then it also skips the difficulty selection screen.

Okay. I know it always skips the copy protection and difficulty screens when I play it from the CD (without ScummVM), and I thought perhaps there was a way that ScummVM could do the same thing, or at least a way to load saved games without having to trudge through the first two screens. Thanks anyway.

You missed the important part (the sentence above your quote):

In some cases ScummVM will still show the copy protection screen. Try entering any answer. Chances are that it will work.

Well, there is the --save-slot (or -x) command-line option, but other than that...
