Can ScummVM be ported to a Java platform?

Post by sidneylopsides »

I'm wondering if the newer, much more powerful, Java phones from Sony Ericsson would be capable of running a version of ScummVM.
I don't know how much it could handle, but hardware wise I belive the K800i has a 224MHz ARM9, and there is no limit on JAR size (I've tested it with JARs over 6MB), the resolution is 320x240 so that's high enough and it seems to have the graphical power.
Does anybody have any idea?

No. ScummVM is written in C++, not in Java.

This has been asked before, see http://forums.scummvm.org/viewtopic.php?t=113

Ah, ok. So a direct port isn't possible, but it may be possible to make a Java verion of a VM.
I'll have to get onto some people.
Thanks :)

The correct question would be "Can ScummVM be completely rewritten from the scratch on Java platform". Feel the difference. Yes, you could spend like couple years with a dedicated team and rewrite the whole thing. Java is not C++.

Anyway, all of this has already been discussed in depth in the thread I pointed to :-)
