Maniac Mansion NES

Hey fellas, really sorry to bring this up, but I can't for my life get Maniac Mansion NES to work. I've followed the basic instructions and edited the game with Hex Workshop, tried everything on several different ROMs, but still no luck. Could anyone please give a more detailed explanation on how to do this thing?

I can answer the second question: extract_mm_nes is in the ScummVM tools archive, which you can get from the downloads page.

Not sure about the first one, but have you extracted the game using the aforementioned tool?

The readme isn't that clear (at this point). Copy everything except the first two lines to a new file (see the readme for the name).

You use the extract_mm_nes after using the hex editor.

I'm trying to get my Maniac Mansion NES ROM to work on either SCUMMVM 0.9 or 0.8 and neither works...

I downloaded "Hex Workshop" and deleted the first 16 lines of the rom, then saved it as "Maniac Mansion (E).prg" and it didn't work...what did I do wrong?

And is running it in ScummVM supposed to add Mouse support? b/c that's the only reason I'm bothering with it haha

Shouldn't it say nes in the name somewhere?

I just tested this..
Converted rom to prg using ucon64.
Then I used extract_mm_nes.exe on that prg file.

The result is 55 lfl files. Then its just a matter of adding the game to scummvm I guess.

extract_mm_nes.exe is no more required, i tried about one year ago and it worked fine with a file called Maniac Mansion (E).prg

So you yourself aren't getting it to work either..?

I've neither been able to get extract to work, nor ScummVM to work without extracting.

I downloaded ucon64 but I don't see the option to convert a ROM to a prg there.

I named the file that after using a hex editor, and I can get ScummVM to recognize it as the NES rom, but it won't successfully open it, neither in 0.8 or 0.9

No, not according to the readme. According to the readme the filename I stated was correct. I've been able to get ScummVM to "see" the file, just not open it.

ucon64 -s maniac.nes
Should do the trick.

But Scummvm 0.91 won't recognize the prg file anyway. But the extracted files work as a charm.

How come? What's filesize and MD5 of the PRG file?

I've just tried with the latest svn and it still works fine with just Maniac Mansion (E).prg in my directory. I guess that your file is wrong, perhaps you should check the .nes file with goodnes
