I bought BASS on ebay before I found out that it was available for free now.. is there any benefit from me having the game in cd form? How will it affect its use via scumm?

There are a couple of different versions of the game, but apart from bugfixes, and the brand of beer shown in the intro, there shouldn't be any differences between them. I think the freeware version is the most up-to-date version of the game.

To run the original with ScummVM, you will need the sky.cpt file from the Extras section of the ScummVM downloads page. This file contains data that was built into the original game engine, but which was extracted to a separate data file for ScummVM to conserve memory.
