Want to help the team? Replay Zak using the original engine!

Post by fingolfin »

Hi folks,

I just finished rewriting the walk code for V1/V2 games (i.e. Zak McKracken and Maniac Mansion), which allowed me to close almost a dozen bug reports. Nice.

Now I'd like to deal with some more, but for this I need help: In some cases it's not clear whether those reports actually describe bugs, or maybe correct behavior. Or, if they do describe bugs, what the correct behavior should be.

As such it would be helpful if some of you could play through Zak McKracken, using the original exe (possibly with help from dosbox) to verify that thes bugs are bugs, resp. what should happen.

The bugs in question are these:

Your support is much appreciated!

Also I think that it would be nice if you would keep as many saves as possible at different stages of the game, so in the future we will have easier means for seeing original behavior.

Hehe, both those bugs were submitted by me :P

Ill try getting through V2 later on tonight. I have just barely gotten it going on my old win98 comp, i cant use dosbox for this at the moment as that involves copying from the win98 comp (which is my only working PC with a 3'5 floppy drive)to my Xp one and for some reason i cant copy the .exe itself due to some bizzare system error.

Of course if someone else beats me to it though i wont be incredibly hurt
