ATI X800XL Vesa TSR

Post by exofreeze »

Has anyone here dealt with trying to get a VESA TSR to load and recognize a possible VESA mode on the ATI X800XL video card?

I have spent hours over the past 3 days trying to get discworld 2 to run on my machine. Everything from vdmsound, to dosbox 0.65, and dosbox 0.70. I can not get my game to recognize a compatible super vga vesa mode.

I have tried:
univbe
vbeplus
univesa
vvesa
m64ultra

None of the above recognize a VESA mode.

Anyone got any suggestions?

Sorry but this is not really the right place to ask such questions. Go to the dosbox forums instead.

I have, and no one has provided any answers yet.

I purposefully asked in the junkyard so as to not confuse it with a scummvm question. I am assuming that many people whom frequent these forums have experience running older games and not just using dosbox - it would be stupid to ignore that expertise.

.

I have run Discworld 2 in Win98SE without any Problem
and many other old games too.
I don't know much about Windows,
but maybe you could try to install MS Virtuall PC and run a Win 98 System on it ??

If nothing helps, try Discworld 3 - it's a better game and
probably more compatible with Win XP (I asume you use it, do you ?)

Thanks for the info Kosuan.

I have discworld 1 and 2 on my playstation1, but I was trying to get them to work for an adventure game front end i installed on my pc. Unfortunately front ends can't effectively start a virtual pc and then start a game within that shell very well.

I have discworld noir as well, although I Havent started trying to get it to run yet.

I did manage to figure out my problem however. The game was claiming it was a vesa error, when inr eality it was not.

Using a series of batch files and a specialized dosbox.conf file I got it running finally =)

Good that you found a solution finally.

I have played Discworld Noir on my Win 98 machine and really liked it.

On XP it's not compatible again, sorry - I have not checked this before.

But you are more experienced than me,
and maybe the magic of Discworld helps a little ?.....
