Kyrandia 1: Issue

Post by C0deHunter »

Hi all,
Even though I have downloaded and overwritten the kyra.dat from ScummVM onto my game's folder, the new ScummVM reports that it is corrupted.

I have tried them both under XP Pro SP2 and VISTA Ultimate with no luck.

Please help, I am going crazy! thanks for your help!

you did not indicate which version of ScummVM you are using;

ScummVM 0.9.1 requires the kyra.dat for 0.9.1
ScummVM 0.10.0 SVN requires the kyra.dat from SVN (which may get updated without notice)

see first paragraph at http://wiki.scummvm.org/index.php/Kyra for links

(unless this is a ScummVM bug, then I'm sorry I couldn't help)

I am using ScummVM 0.9.1 for Windows. No matter what I do, it doesn't like the kyra.dat file.

What is ScummVM 0.10.0 SVN?

according to the wiki page, the kyra.dat needed for ScummVM 0.9.1 is at:

Code: Select all

http://svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/*checkout*/scummvm/engine-data/trunk/kyra.dat?revision=22700

SVN builds are daily snapshots with all the changes since the 0.9.1 release - you can get the windows version (updated daily) from http://scummvm.org/downloads.php#SVN

Sorry, but the link doesn't work.

I am getting the .dat file from here:

Version 0.9.1 uses this kyra.dat file:

Code: Select all

http://svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/*checkout*/scummvm/engine-data/trunk/kyra.dat?revision=22700
(copy and paste into your browser)

Version 0.10SVN uses this kyra.dat file

btw it tries to load the file here in the browser windows instead of offering me the "download" dialog (Firefox WinXP) - in this case File->Save Page As should do the trick

Actually kyra.dat is already included with the Windows build of ScummVM 0.9.1.

Sounds like you are using a more recent version of kyra.dat that isn't compatible, so just delete the version you added to game's folder.

Oh, you mean delete this file, then run the game again? I am going to try that!

Ok, the game runs but I don't have voice. I have sfx and music, but no voice.

Which version of the game do you have? I only have the CD version myself, but I assume the floppy (and Amiga?) version doesn't have voices.

My CD version is detected as "The Legend of Kyrandia (CD/DOS/English)".

Actually, I do have the CD version:

On my Laptop (IBM ThinkPad 22) and a Desktop (P4, with SoundBlaster Audigy 2 Platinum) it indeed has VOICE, but on my main gaming machine (Athlon CPU, SoundBlaster X-Fi Fatal1ty Edition) I have no VOICE.

I think it is more of a driver issue then?

I doubt it, since SDL is usually quite compatible with windows (ie if windows plays any digital music, it should work with ScummVM as well)

maybe a problem with scummvm.ini? You could try deleting it and setting up ScummVM anew.

Have you double-checked that you didn't accidentally change the settings for the game to "Text only"? It seems unlikely, but sometimes it pays off to check the simple explanations first.

OK, I deleted the scummvm directory, installed the new version (again) and it works now!

It was corrupted I guess. Thanks for all your help!
