Wouldn't some ClrMAMEPro DATs help?

I mean to check that someone has the proper files from the original and no extra files (that eat up space).

I will also help find the various different versions.

Also great, would be to be able to use a game directly as a zip (with everything needed by the game inside), much cleaner to maintain and really would save space (esp. for portable devices this is a major issue) - although I think this has been discussed before (and I remember I disagree with the official team comment on this).

What do you think?

if you don't want unneeded files, there is documentation available to determine which files are not needed

I'm not sure how dat files will help you find the right version if you want to legally buy a lucasarts game on eBay or if you see it sitting somewhere at your local secondhand shop :]

Besides the reasons listed there, there are also technical reasons that speak against it.

I never heard of ClrMAMEPro before (and find it a bit strange that somebody will post about it, blindly assuming everybody must know about it -- how about explaining it, and including a link to some relevant web pages?)

I'm sure if you keep asking the same thing over and over again eventually the devs will surely cave in
