Goblins 3 Symbian OS 3 Problem

Post by Saleiz »

Hello everyone, I got a problem with Goblins 3 on Symbian s60v3 (9.2) phone, at start everything is ok, game runs without problems, no gfx glitches, sound ok, speed ok, but when I'm playing in first level, screen scrolling at the location doesn't work :( only effect of trying to scroll the screen to the right area of location is that the upper menu (where you have options, jokers, map etc) moved to right and went partially over the screen, but screen with game area is stucked in one place, so it's not possible to make any progress in the game :(

Is it bug of scummVM, that could be fixed in future, or maybe I didn't set up properly some things? If it's bug i could report that, but i'm not sure. I didn't saw this problem noticed here (Forum & Games Compatibility subpage), so I wrote about it, please reply if you can.

PS.
(I haven't got any problems with playing Gobliiins 1 & Gobliins 2, maybe because these games haven't got locations bigger than 240x320 size and scrolling simply doesn't exist... i also haven't got any other problems with working scummVM aplication on my mobile)

I have n't really been testing high resolution games, and they or might not work.

Thank you for reply. Sorry, maybe i wrote it unclearly. Goblins 3 has the same resolution like most old DOS games... (unlike Broken Sword for example), but screen scrolling simply doesn't working here. For example 'Day Of The Tentacle' also have locations bigger than viewable screen area, the same low typical DOS resolution like Goblins 3, and screen scrolling works properly here. I tested some adventure games on new ScummVM, but Goblins 3 is the only one of them where the screen scrolling doesn't work properly. I hope it could be fixed in the future, because it's a great game... regards & keep up this great work, because this project it's an awesome thing :)

Hmm, that means that Draw::_scrollOffsetX gets set correctly (it's handed to the script that draws the menu), but Video::_scrollOffsetX is either not synced correctly (I don't see how, though, and here it works), or something in Video::retrace() goes wrong (I don't see how there, either). :/

Goblins 3

I can confirm the bug, the same thing happens on my E70 on 416x352.

plus when you start the game, reach the first level and move the mouse to the top of the screen all five Menu icons appear but when you move the mouse away and you go back for the second time the icons are spaced differently making last two menu icons move outside the visible screen area. also opening some of these menus brings up the relevant windows outside the screen area.

that was almost correct

at start all 6 icons appear as they should but once I tried to scroll to the right, then the icons get repositioned and they stay that way until the next re-start

Shaxer, you can bring it back (menu) to normal view, by moving 'mouse' cursor like you're trying to scroll screen to the left, then the menu will back without restarting. But of course it's not much important in fact that you can't make any progress in game and complete first level with stucked screen :/

thanks for the hint

It's not useful for us but I suppose the developers need every information to make it easier to identify the source of the problem.

it would be great to make it work because besides Lost Vikings (1&2) Goblins 3 is my all time favourite game of this kind and I can already play the other two with vSun - having the 3rd one as well would be a dream come true :)
