Strange error with Monkey Island 1 CD

Post by Fuhira »

Hi guys,

I'm playing my good ol' CD version of The Secret of Monkey Island in my DS. I've managed to extract and copy all audio files as explained by agentq, but, for some obscure reason, they're not played in the right order. For example, it looks for track 1 at the beginning but plays track 17. And the right track for the beginning of the game is number 9! Do I have a funny CD? Is this normal? What am I doing wrong?

Sorry for the inconvenience and thanks in advance for any tip or help.

I don't know what you're doing wrong, but on my CD, track 17 (assuming the first music track is 1) is the correct music for the intro, and track 9 is the ghost ship music used late in the game.

Edit: Oops, my counting of the tracks was wrong. Updated.

You're right. I just compared the converted tracks to the Audio CD and renamed them. The renaming process when converting was the problem. Now it should work. Many thanks :-)

It seems it didn't work out in the end. Now it just crashes in the beginning. I give up. I'll just play without music.

You mean the Nintendo DS version crashes, or does it crash if you try to run the desktop (Windows, Mac, ...) version as well? I don't know what is and what isn't supported on the DS, but unless it's a known problem, you may want to file a bug report.

Are you absolutely sure the files are in the correct format. You want IMA-ADPCM 4-bit mono.

Nope, the desktop version runs smoothly and playing the right songs. The format is always the same, the one you mention, because I could listen to the music the first time I played, but there seemed to be a problem with the track numbers and the music tracks weren't played in the right order. Now it crashes at the very beginning, as if I was playing with mp3s. This is my converted first track:

track1.mp3
Format: IMA ADPCM, 22,050 KHz; 4 bit; Mono
Lenght: 121 seconds
Output format: PCM, 22050 Hz, 1 channel(s), 16 bits per sample

Is that right?

The file can't be both PCM and IMA ADPCM. PCM ones won't work.

Also, they should be named .WAV and not .MP3, since they are not MP3s.

Sorry I wrote track1.mp3 by mistake. It is indeed a track1.wav.
I followed the instructions on the website. I just have to select WAV - IMA ADPCM - 22050 Hz - Mono - On the fly right?

Why do I see that "Output format: PCM, 22050 Hz, 1 channel(s), 16 bits per sample" afterwards?

Did you select 'Extract audio to a compressed audio format'?

If you select 'Extract audio to a WAV file' it will create a PCM wav file, which is not what you want.

Yessssir. I can tell by the size anyway. All 24 tracks: 29,4 MB. What am I diddly doing wrong?

I really don't know. I've done it loads of times, and nobody has reported a crash there. I've even filled the tracks with random music files for comedy effect.

You are using v0.9.1a of ScummVM DS, right?

Yes. Should I try with the new beta version? The thing is that I could listen to the music the first time I played, it's strange. The format should be fine, because I've done it always the same way.
