Maximum sample rate

Post by jh »

Zak McKracken FM-Towns version has really great stereo 44kHz music. I'd like to use that on ScummVM DS. I tried all combinations, 44kHz/22kHz + mono/stereo. Stereo is always totally clipped and bad (why?) and 44kHz seems to be downsampled.

Is ScummVM DS currently limited to 22kHz/mono sound? 44kHz/stereo would be great!

Currently, only mono is supported. Sterero files will sound corrupted. This is simply because the audio decoder I wrote for the task only does mono. It should reject stero files but it seems it doesn't. Support for stereo ADPCM is on my todo list for sometime in the future.

44Khz mono though, works and plays back without resampling. It probably won't sounds as good as when it was played back on your PC though, since the DS uses pulse width modulation to produce it's sound output (in order for the sound hardware to be cheaper), and this reduces sound quality somewhat.
