spookypeanut: bestsharing holds the links for quite a while before expiring, so simply try to download it a few more times. If what you meant is that you can't play it back, I recommend you to uninstall any and all evil codec packs you have, then download any of the ffdshow versions from ffdshow.info (I prefer clsid's one) and Haali's media splitter from http://haali.cs.msu.ru/mkv/. Those two programs installed with their defaults will allow you to play back pretty much anything without clogging your system and deteriorating it performance.
That's weird. By the way, I forgot to answer your question: I used RAD Tools to extract a lossless AVI, then ran it through an Avisynth (a freeware nonlinear editor) script with some filters.
Got it! And wow. Very impressed. I went back and watched the original again, and was amazed at the difference. Have you tried re-encoding to dxa and playing it in scummvm yet?
spookypeanut: I haven't done that yet, mainly because the filterchain still needs tweaking and also because I don't know where to find either a DXA encoder or the DXA codecs themselves.
dxa encoder can be found in the scummvm tools (i believe it takes a series of png files as input). whether there is any such thing as a dxa codec (for a movie player, i assume you mean?); i believe not.

The smacker/bink file are only needed because that's where the encoder gets height/width/framerate/amount of frames. However, it could be easily modified to get this information from another type of file.

I think the encoder assumes the png files to already be 256-color pngs (since dxa is for 8-bit images)
