simon 1 two versions

Post by speedstar »

hello
i have two different versions of simon 1 floppy pc dos.
differences are:
1501 (all of this 5 files have size differences)
1502
1562
1572
1592
mt_fm (only first one of them contains that file)
text20 (first is "peddlar", second is "pedlar")
text22 (first is "color", second is "colour")

it looks like euro and us versions?
which one would be better?

bonus question.
this ones are both original.
what about copy protection under scummvm v0.10?

edit1:
can i pack it to zip and scummvm will see it and use anyway?
i ask, because i use Pocket PC version of scumm, and much many files would transfer much time to SD Card.

no idea if these are euro and us versions, but since Adventure Soft is a British company I'd say the original ("British") version would be preferable

well, looks like i will wait about a hour to place all files from simon 1 into SD Card... not good.

another bonus question.
if i have a CD Version and there is that large sound file.
is there any way to rip it off?
maybe make file that is 0b in size or just delete it?

an hour to save a few megabytes of data onto an SD card? are you using a card reader on PC? It should be faster than that...

README 7.7.6 - maybe you can set the bitrate even lower to create a tiny file

Megabytes are ok, but the number of small files is not for flash SD Card.
There is more then 300 files to write into.
Create as many files (no mater they are big or small) makes on flash SD Cards much time.
As i see, my kingston 1 GB flash SD Card is more slow then pendrive in action with many files.
The same problem found my friends who also use Pocket PC.
And i'm not sure that zip support would do more piracy (maybe like mame zip files), because people always can distribute pirate, no mater they are zipped or not, because always they are distributed as compressed file and can be decompressed.

p.s. sorry for my bad english ;)
