Extracting data from Acorn disk and CD.

Post by Tuxie »

So, I've found and bought the Acorn versions of Simon the Sorcerer, just because. :) Are there any free tools available to extract the files from the disks/cdrom or am I doomed to use the ridiculously expensive virtualrpc emulator?

according to http://www.scummvm.org/compatibility.php?details=simon1

using that version will be soundless.

but ill look for a extractor for you

EDIT: http://www.osnews.com/story.php/6170/Em ... ows/page1/

does this help?

EDIT2:ArcDisc or ArcImg might be able to help, i think there emulators but there seems to be very little info about them

though theres no info on the readme about converting/extracting acorn discs. so maybe you don't?

first of all, virtual pc is free now.

secondly, psycho - you didn't answer anything. You just asked more questions.

I will have a look at ArcDisc/ArcImg.

exofreeze: I meant VirtualRPC, the Acorn Archimedes emulator. :) There is also ArcEm which is free but as far as I can tell it's far from as featureful. Maybe it's enough to just copy the files to the host filesystem in some way though.

I thought Acorn CD-ROMs were ISO9660 (ref http://www.keelhaul.me.uk/misc/acorncdlinux.htm) and therefore PC readable (I may be wrong on that though and the only Acorn CD-ROM I have is in another country so I can't try it).

You could use ArcImg (http://www.knowbody.org.uk/arcimage/) to take a disc image of the discs and then use Red Squirrel (http://www.redsquirrel.fsnet.co.uk/) to copy the files to your windows HDD or maybe to a DOS disc.

RPCEmu (http://b-em.bbcmicro.com/arculator/) may also be worth a look as maybe this site http://acorn.revivalteam.de/

Great now I'm missing my collection of Acorns. Hmmm that makes me sound like some sort of squirel :-)

I haven't actually received the CD-version yet but it will arrive in the mail next week. If it has a plain iso9660 filesystem, that's great!
As for the floppy version, I still haven't had time to play with an emulator to see if I can extract it that way but thanks for your suggestions. I will try them out.
