I've got the PC version of the game, but from what I can gather, it is not supported by Scummvm. Can somebody please confirm that this is in fact the case? And if so, does anybody know of another way I can get the game to play on a mac?
Grateful for any answers, I'm addicted!
Oh also, in doing a search for this subject here, I've come across the term "Wine". What is this? I havent found it anywhere on google in connection with Monkey Island and mac

Escape From Monkey Island is based on the GrimE engine, and uses 3D models for the characters. It's not supported by ScummVM, and probably never will be. It's possible that it will eventually be support by the Residual project, but progress on that is very slow, and the main focus is Grim Fandango.Jenny wrote:I've got the PC version of the game, but from what I can gather, it is not supported by Scummvm. I'm pretty sure the game was released for the Mac. Of course, the doesn't help you with the PC version.Jenny wrote:And if so, does anybody know of another way I can get the game to play on a mac?
According to the Wine web page, "Wine is an Open Source implementation of the Windows API on top of X, OpenGL, and Unix." One of its purposes is to run Windows applications - with varying degrees of success - but I assume it needs an Intel-compatible CPU to do so.Jenny wrote: Oh also, in doing a search for this subject here, I've come across the term "Wine". There's a port of Wine for Mac OS X called "Darwine". Not sure what the status of it is, but it doesn't handle 3D games though (or I doubt it does, didn't do it last time I checked).Jenny wrote: Oh also, in doing a search for this subject here, I've come across the term "Wine". Your best bet for running the PC version on a Mac is probably Parallels.

Grim Fandango runs very well in windowed mode in Parallels on my MacBook Pro. I'm sure you could get EMI running, too (without 3D acceleration), but it might take some tweaking, ie running windowed or some such. I think there's an EMI launcher out there somewhere akin to the Grim Launcher that allows you to play from the harddrive, launch in windowed, etc.
Wine is really not for faint of heart, and I don't think you could get a game like EMI running on it anyway.
If you don't mind spending over $200 just to play one game, I would recommend: Buy Parallels and a copy of Windows XP, download the revised EMI Launcher, and fiddle around until you've got it working.
