COMI on p1i-ported?

Post by corpo »

Hi,
here is the deal. I looked at the forum and there were some ppl having problems like me on the P1i with the Monkey Island 3(Course of monkey island)
Here is what "Anotherguest" posted about the issue earlier:
"
Also memory might be an issue, I have set the limit for scummvm at 32mb right now I think, not sure if thats enough for COMI. I'm thinking about an improved vga mode for N95 and P1i users where you have more memory available to play these games.
"

So is there any way. This was in August so I guess the issue was looked for?
System requirments on the COMI page are: 90 MHz processor, 16 MB RAM, PCI graphics card

So the P1i is way above that with its 208Mhz and 75 free RAM (probably 70Mb with the SCUMMV started)

I can get the game started and can even see the Medallion with the options, but the game gives me the SDL_3 error but I can still continue

Is there any way - new version of SCUMMVM or not using the ogg but other files , I use a compressed version compressed to your specification

please let me know as this game is a must and the only reason I downloaded the program
thanx

P.s. Willing to donate for that;)

I own a P1i too, and have played the entire MI-series again, great fun btw, but like you, Corpo, I desperately want to play COMI.

I get the intromovie ok, can move around with Wally for like two seconds, then the game crashes.

I would definetely donate to get an updated scummvm-version for UIQ3, capable of playing COMI.....

I can confirm that Course of Monkey Island does not run on the P1i.
Not with version 0.10.0 as not with version 0.9.1.

It crashes right after the intro with:

App: SDL_4
Code: KERN-EXEC
Nr.: 3

Tested with both, ogg and mp3 compression.

It would be highly appreciated if somebody is able to debug/fix this.

2 cents. On the older UIQ3 models this error most often means an out-of-memory error, i.e. the program couldn't load a file it had tried to, for some reason (which the OS will most certainly refuse to tell you, I'm afraid). Except that on the older UIQ3 models there IS a memory shortage, and on the P1i there's enough memory to calculate a small nuclear war with. Sucks to be us, huh?

I also tried a full version and one without the compression - it shows the screen then you can move a little and then stops

Is there any chance that you can make the COMI or Broken Sword 1 & 2 work?

P.s. @Noelemahc
If you can run the Curse of Monkey Island on your/the w950 how come you cant run it on the P1i?
did I miss out something - you did say you ran it on w950?
And by RUNNING you do mean playable not the intro...?

I said "run" and I meant "run" :) That's a "launch successful" result, I didn't say it was playable. It hangs at the very start, once the intro ends and we get to see Wally and Guybrush. Which is pretty much your result, minus the crash. A hang is more fun than a crash, neh?

It doesn't "crash" - it hangs, but I get the error message and when I press ok, it hangs.
I even managed to make the medallion show up once.

P.s. So anotherguest - should we hope?

Anotherguest,
Well not that you owe me or must answer - but a simple "yes" or a simple "no" would be great - any chance of doing it?

I'm planning to do screenflipping first, then improve the vga support. Still there are some issues with COMI that might make it unplayable on a Symbian phone anyway. I would not say that some of the libs used are not really tested on Symbian yet.
