Volunteer(s) wanted to check bugin BASS

Post by fingolfin »

Hi folks,

maybe somebody out there likes BASS (Beneath a Steel Sky), has some spare time at his/her hands and would like to help us out resolving a certain bug which troubles BASS running under ScummVM?

Well, here's your chance: Bug #1507756 affects some talk animations. And right now, we don't know whether it's a bug in ScummVM (which we should fix), or a bug in the data files (which we also could fix, but it would work very differently). As such, we need to identify whether the problem also occurs with the original .exe.

Here you come in: It would be great if somebody could use e.g. DOSBox to run the original BASS .exe and play up to that point (make a save before it, too, if possible ;). And then tell us whether the bug occurs there, too, or not.

Your help would be very much appreciated :)

Does it have to be the latest BASS version? (I have the original CD with 0.368 here, but I believe the latest version ScummVM detects is 0.372)

While I'm at it, are there any more saves needed before that?

Best would be to use the same version as the person who reported the bug, which is v0.0368.

Any additional saves you make along the way could be useful in the future / for other bug reports, so don't hesitate to make them.

thanks for your time and effort. :)

ok, will start playing

Now that I have read the bug report, I remember standing in the pond once (that means, Foster is standing in the pond).

I cannot recall if that was in the original or within ScummVM; at that time I assumed maybe the "border" which distinguishes walkable and non-walkable area might leave a space open to walk through.

I was able to trigger the bug on ScummVM 0.11.1 and BASS 0.0372 but i have no .exe to try it in dosbox. There isn't one in the .zip on the Downloads page.
