COMI: "Language file is forced to be ignored"

Post by crypto »

I'm using the latest ScummVM (v0.11.1) and I have played "The Curse of Monkey Island" (English) from beginning to end, without any issues.

The game is detected properly by ScummVM as Windows/English, but the console keeps showing the following message:
"WARNING: Language file is forced to be ignored!"

If I manually choose 'English (GB)', 'English (US)' or even '<default>' the message still shows up.

But if I change it to any other language, except English, the message disappears. :?

Shouldn't it be the other way around?
The message should only appear if the chosen language is different from the game's native one.

The native language of COMI is *always* english, which is why the message appears -- the scripts files exclusively contain english text. Only by an external add-on language.tab/.bnd file does it get translated. Which is why the message is as it is.

It might make sense though to only show this warning if a non-english language file is present.

OK, I understand it now.

But I think it would be less confusing to show a warning message only if a translated, non-english language file, were used.

The way it is now, makes people think that there is something wrong with their original game files.

Or make this message only appear when debuglevel is specified. In normal play, in case the file is not loaded for some reason, you will notice it with the first line of screen text in the game anyways.
