I'm unsure about what the "valid point" is here, given the way you chose to express it (calling people names, creating duplicate accounts saying that a 6-year old project with over 30 developers is a "dying program" and so on)...
We do not want to connect ourselves with warez, and we do not wish to aid people who got warezed games. As for "not knowing it's illegal", of course you know that copying games (and movies, and music and whatever else) is illegal, plus there are all sorts of anti-piracy ads in UK, where you reside

Nice easy whoami ip lookup
When you buy games over the ebay you believe they are legal, but when they arrive on a dodgy looking DVD you do wonder.
I'm sure many users here have done the same or copied even you guys I'm sure have done it. Do you really think all ScummVM users have bought the games? I have many C64 games which are free now, we thought other older formats were too, little did we know now.
I feel like staying away from retro gaming for life and stick with the Xbox360

I don't, but I know the games I play with ScummVM are all either honestly bought, or one of the few games that has been made freeware by its original creators. (We are, of course, all hoping that this number will grow.)blackbird wrote:Do you really think all ScummVM users have bought the games?
Personally I don't particularly care what people do, as long as they don't expect to get support for pirated games. Legal issues aside, it's a waste of time anyway since the problem may turn out to be that the files are packaged in some non-standard ways (like in the thread referenced earlier), or damaged by a bad crack (we used to get that kind of bug reports for Maniac Mansion).

Bad example, though.eriktorbjorn wrote:or damaged by a bad crack (we used to get that kind of bug reports for Maniac Mansion).
The German MM which comes with DOTT and in "Zehn Adventures" was shipped with a buggy "cracked" EXE, so THQ could avoid printing the code table in those versions. It eliminated the need for the code table, but also rendered the mailbox useless. I once wrote a patch which restored the original EXE but changed the game scripts instead. Unfortunately, an older version of this patch introduced another bug. However, it wasn't meant to be used with ScummVM in the first place (which I mentioned in the accompanied text file, and sure it also mentions what it may not be used for). And even if the patch was applied in its latest version, ScummVM would probably still work.
This patch didn't help in pirating either, since the game versions it was applyable didn't need the code table in the first place.
However, someone who still uses the older patch, might do so with a pirated version without even knowing the patch was applied.
