Full Throttle fansubbed in french ?

Post by Yodajr »

Hello !

I have Full Throttle in 2 versions : English and French.
And I want to have the english voices and the french subtitles (like DOTT) because the english dub is more better than the french one...
But I don't understand how the game work, I think I stuck because the big FT.LA1... I can't just replace some files "like that"

I can't admit it's impossible because I see a spanish subtittled version of FT (voices in english, like I want), so it's possible !

Someone is aware about this stuff ?

Thanks in advance

I could be wrong, but I think Full Throttle is one of those games where the text is embedded in the game scripts, so to translate you'd have to take the file apart, replace all texts (and, unless the texts have the same lengths as before, adjust the rest of the script to compensate), and rebuild it. I assume there are tools to simplify that, but I'm not familiar with them.

In some later games, the scripts still contain all the English texts, but translated texts are moved into a separate file to make them easier to replace.

I just had a look in ScummTR (Scumm Translation) and it SUPPORTS Full Throttle!

http://hibernatus34.free.fr/scumm/scummtr.exe
Windows only.

To use:
For ease, scummtr should be in your FT folder
Open the command line (Start -> Run -> cmd)

cd C:\path\2\ft\and\scummtr

Now you need to EXTRACT text from FT:

Code: Select all

scummtr -cw -g ft -of ft.txt
ft.txt may be changed

This will dump a .txt file containing strings of text.

To insert:

Code: Select all

scummtr -cw -g ft -if ft.txt
If you want I made a handy .bat that checks for ft.txt and scummtr.exe and then inserts automatically. A bit of config for this is necessary because I wrote it for Monkey Island 2, you only need to change mi2 to ft really.

I hope I helped!

Thank you for answer.
So iPwnzorz, I tried scummtr and yes, it work, the texts was extrated correctly
But 2 questions :
- The translated text will have to have the same lenght than the original one ? (like eriktorbjorn said)

- For that I want, can I "simply" replace the US texts with the FR ones ?
For exemple, a US sentence (extracted on the US version of FT) is like this :

\255\010\225\247\255\010\049\000\255\010\010\000\255\010\000\000It's that chainsaw I picked up on the Mine Road.

And the corresponding FR (extracted on the FR version of FT) sentence :

\255\010\227\218\255\010\049\002\255\010\010\000\255\010\000\000C'est la tronçonneuse que j'ai ramassée sur la route de la Vieille Mine.

Like you see, the numbers before the texts are not the same.
So, I have to copy/paste all the texts, one by one ?

No they don't need to be the same length, in fact if you know how the variables work you could in theory add your own lines, but afaik the variable (those seemingly pointless numbers) must be the same.

If you copied and pasted them from the French FT then they might be pointing to different speech files, so change the variable back, just take the text.

That's because Full Throttle was never dubbed to Spanish. The game was published with English voices and Spanish subtitles.

It's me again

It's been a while, but I just figured out that the scummtr utility don't extract the subtitle of the videos !

There are another solution to have in the videos, english dub and french subtitle ?

Thanks
