How do you actually load games into scummvm? what format do they have to be in? I know it doesnt detect '.nes' files so what kind of file do I need?

.nes files? Sounds like you're trying to run the NES version of Maniac Mansion, am I right? There are instructions in the readme that tells you what you need to do to get the NES version to work in ScummVM. There aren't any other ScummVM supported games for the NES.
For any other game you just copy the game's files into a folder and add that folder to the ScummVM game list.

i did what the readme file told me to do. scummvm detected the file but nothing would happen. it looked like it started to load but the program exited out and did nothing.
its a little confusing. the readme says "...maniac mansion works but is not yet playable."
then the next paragraph it says "...to get it working..."
then I did what it told me but it didnt do anything...

I got scummvm to detect the prg file that I needed. but when I actually load it, scummvm exits out and does nothing. on the wii it just goes back to the homebrew channel
are there other files you need besides the .prg file? the readme said thats all you needed to run Maniac Mansion
EDIT: ok i managed to read the error message, it exits out so quick i couldnt read it before:

Check the link for post 27 from iSynic. It quotes a tutorial.
You'll need to download another tool called ucon64.
I did notice a little mistake in the line before the second command line box.
extract_mm_nes.exe "Maniac Mansion.nes" should be
extract_mm_nes.exe "Maniac Mansion.prg"
http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/showth ... 786&page=3
I just tried this and it works. If you have any problems post.
Just editing my post I just noticed the error box. The md5 check fails. The md5 in the error box. I'm not sure if it's the one Scumm expects for MM or the md5 of your MMprg file.
There's a little app, it becomes part of the right-click menu, where when installed you right-click a file (MMprg) and it gives you the option "calculate hash value". You have 3 types but you just need md5. It's called Hash on click.
The freeware version will do the job.

If you've read that tutorial you'll notice it says you can use the .prg file or go one step further and extract everything from that as well. Maybe that will work for you.
I'm not sure if there is a listing somewhere for the correct md5 hashes that ScummVM expects. From that error box that's clearly where the problem is.
Another edit here are the md5s that are OK with ScummVM for Maniac NES. They're on the web site.

If you're still having trouble after the second part of the tutorial there's some links at the end of the wiki that you should probably check.
Is MM officially, for want of a better word, abandonware?
