Rookie Question- Laptop + Vista + Monkey Island

Hi, I'm a bit of a rookie here, and I have a laptop with windows vista. I really want to get a monkey island game for it to revisit my youth but want to know if I can run it on my laptop using ScummVM.

All right, I have just bought a Dell laptop and want to be able to connect to the Internet (broadband) in our house, but is there any way to do this without having to physically connect it to the PC? I was told to get an Ethernet cable but I think this only works with a dial-up Internet connection, plus I didn't know where to plug it in. How do I connect my laptop to our home Broadband Internet connection?
