Re: SCUMMVM 10
No, in the past releases have been made "when they are ready". 0.7.0 was released in December 2004 and 0.8.0 in November 2005, so a good guess might be that the next major release will be by the end of this year.Indiana Jones wrote:i was just wondring if any 1 knows when scummvm 10 is comming out
Whether it will be called ScummVM 0.9.0, ScummVM 1.0.0 or ScummVM Vista... ah, that's a different matter altogether.

Version 10 should include the following:
Ability to predict the future,
Make a good coffee for those long gaming evenings,
Allow instant messaging and voice chat to other ScummVM gamers so you can brag to other gamers about your collected items,
Destroy hard drives that have anything with Boyzone on,
Greet you personally with a smile....

Well I'd go with automagic, self-adapting, generic adventure-game support. This way you don't have to get the source/reverse engineer, port to scummvm, debug, etc. everytime a new game shall be supported.
...the IM feature is even better though. I'd trade that one in for the above! Nothing's as good as bragging to friends or complete strangers
pi~
P.S.: Get going already

It should be able to generate any game by just looking at some input like a magazine page or a short video clip which reports about it.
It also should automatically paint all the rooms and characters when it just learned about an old text adventure thus converting it to a whooping state of the art point'n'click adventure.
Even Grim Fandango, EMI and M$ Windows would be automatically turned into point'n'click adventures. Well, actually M$ Windows is one already.
Whenever someone finds a bug, ScummVM 10 should be able to fix it on its own, even if it's not a ScummVM bug, but a either game script bug, OS bug, driver bug, SDL bug, user missconfigured the system issue, defective hardware, virus infection or a power failure. Same for any feature request.
And it shouldn't only make coffee but also any other drink and food.

So what you're saying is that ScummVM 10 should look something like this, and that's it?clem wrote:why only figure out how a game is run? it should PLAY it for you!
If anyone's curious where that image is from, see this review.
Yes, unattended game completion is a must for v10 with the options of directing all audio and video output to dev/null or alternatively watching the feed of ScummVM's/the game's internal messages. That way you could finish several adventures during a day at home over ssh at the same time you're working your ass off at the office.
You guys seemt to completely forgot about netplay.
A root-beer-sprinkling deathmatch between LeChuck and Guybrush is a good target for champions.
Additionally it should be able to have multi-head display, for 1st person three-headed monkey view.
And of course, it should be able to drive a car automatically, so all Putt-Putt adventures could be watched in a big, real scaled role-playing game.
