This is a small tool that can pause and resume ScummVM (XP+):
F1 pause ScummVM
F2 resume ScummVM
F10 exit pausescummvm

Do you really want that file, from nearly three years ago? I only ask because that would be an easy hook for an ad-bot to grasp...

I would really like to be able to pause Broken Sword 1 anytime to have more time to read the text... it is actually for my girlfriend who is trying to learn english

If you mean "Subtitle speed" in ScummVM options, it doesn't have any effect for Broken Sword 1 as far as I can tell. Besides, it would be better to have the option to pause completly (not only to slow down) as well anyway... like to have enought time to look for some word in a dictionary.
