Monkey Island theme as ringtone?

Would it be a breach of copyright to use the Monkey Island theme music as a ringtone?

ehrm, I don't think anyone is going to hunt you down if you do it on your own personal phone;)

selling it, on the other hand would be far more problematic.

Well thats more or less what I thought as well, I think I'll pop it on the phone tonight. The Christmass ringtone seems a little bit dated...

I've used the "chapter screen" song from MI1 as a text ring tone for years.

I use in my ppc´s clock the "Bone song" for waking up n the morning, and I used it for a really long time.
By now I have no demand over me.

Well, I would prefer the Theme from Enhanced Audio MI1.

I thought about it too. Maybe one has to cut the first part a bit. So the action starts earlier.

I used mp3DirectCut for trimming of my COMI ring tune.

As far as I know it is perfectly legal as long as you actually pick up the phone in public and do not let the whole song play out

You are allowed to quote a short/degraded sample of a copyrighted work, else no news program or paper could properly comment on anything copyrighted without paying. You would for example not be able to publish a big overview photo of an art gallery unless you pay for the rights of every painting that even takes up one pixel of your shot.
