Monkey Island 1 Music stopped working.

Post by Danny213 »

I've read the other posts on problems with getting Monkey Island music to work on Scumm, and i've done everthing suggested. However, i'm up to the bit where you are on your boat the 'boat paradise' music will not play in the background.

I have the Bounty CD and have converted the music in iTunes to my Monkey1 directory. The music and sound effects work perfectly until I got to this part.

There is no music on the boat at all, but sound effects are still working fine.

I have the new version of Scumm and Windows XP 2.

Thanks in advance.

That would be track 15 (if you could the first audio track as 1), right? Have you double-checked that you have it where ScummVM can find it, and that it's in a format ScummVM understands, i.e. FLAC, Ogg Vorbs or MP3?

Yes, it is indeed Track15 and all files 1-24 are set as MP3.

It's just strange, as soon as Chapter 2 started on the boat there was no music to be played.

There's definitely nothing wrong with my files. Is there a way to force the music on MI? I've saved it just on the boat next to the 3 crew. Perhaps I should just carry on and see what happens?

All the audio files are running fine, so there's nothing faulty, not that I can see.

Force it? I don't see how. But I don't understand why it wouldn't play if the file is an MP3 file, and it's named exactly "track15.mp3". (Upper or lower case letters shouldn't matter, and Windows will probably hide the ".mp3" part, making it show up only as "track15".)

I'm sorry if this insults your intelligence but do you have the "show known file type extensions" on in the Windows file browser?
Like eriktorbjorn hinted, that option may fool you from time to time. It just might be the file is actually called track15.mp3.mp3 or perhaps track15.mp3.aac since you used Itunes.

Offtopic:
I really don't understand why why people at Microsoft think it is a good idea to hide file types by default. The only thing it does it confuse the hell out of people.

Yes I can confirm they are all MP3 and are all names Track1 - Track24

All tracks play perfectly in iTunes. Here, I will post a picture:

@Danny213
Please do what bobdevis told you. You still can't see the extension.

Okay, I can see the extentions now. All tracks are named track1.mp3 - track24.mp3

All tracks are in the correct order and they are all playing properly in iTunes and Windows Media Player.

I booted up the game in Scumm and it STILL refuses to play Boat Paradise.

I started a new game and it seems like all the other music tracks are playing properly.

I'm starting to think that saving the game on Scumm has somehow stopped this music from starting. Although, I don't remember hearing it on the boat to begin with. It's as almost as if the game is not even trying to USE track15.mp3

Is there anything else I can try? Perhaps I should get off the boat and see if the music continutes elsewhere?

Just to make clear, do you mean you loaded a savegame from after arriving on the boat? (I think it only plays the track once, just when you do arrive, not loop it continuously like, say, the SCUMM Bar music.)

yes, I made my save when the crew decided to sit in the sun.

Are you saying this whole boat scenario doesn't include any music?

There's no music at all when I go anywhere on the boat.

Well, when I tried it the other day, there was music when that part of the game started, but it only played the track once. After that, the music stopped and the next piece of music - if memory serves me - isn't until you get the ship moving towards Monkey Island.

I assumed that's how it's supposed to be, but I never played the game before ScummVM.

It's exactly supposed to be like that. They lengthened the track on the CD already, ie. it is half the duration in its midi version on the floppy disks.

ScummVM even improved things as it allows uninterrupted playback of the audio tracks. The native executable insisted on playing the data files directly of the CD which isn't possible without interrupting the music every time some game data is loaded, which happens a lot when exploring the ship.

Okay, well i'm still stuck on the boat. I've got the gunpowder and the rope and lit the fuse, but nothing happens other than the cannon exploding?

What do I do next?
