Monkey 1 Xbox Arcade rumour.

Post by Red_Breast »

I saw this last week and was going to post about it but completely forgot.
I don't think anybody else has posted about it.

I've seen a few of these Live Arcade rumours turn out to be true. Time will tell.
I'm trying to imagine how the mouse to joypad conversion will be handled. I've seen screenshots of Atlantis on Wii but I haven't tried it. Come to think of it I don't even know if it's out yet.

I would think that Atlantis on the Wii will just use the wiimote as a mouse pointer. The 360 on the other hand may be more unusual as you say. It could work well though!

Im hoping the rumour is true as I have the third Monkey Island and really want to play the others.

I swear I'm gonna take drastic action if that game isn't one of the games announced at E3! :x

Wow indeed. If he channelled his energy right he could be president or anything he set his sights on.
Next time I go shopping I'll keep an eye out for him and point him in the right direction. According to one post I should find him at shopping centres, trying to get signatures for petition.
Next time there's a rumour like this I won't post. It only interests me regarding how well, or not, it sells on Xbox Marketplace. Personally I doubt I'd buy it unless they throw in some extras or something.

I heard it was supposed to be a "special edition" but nobody knows what's "special" about it yet.

Maybe special means instead of paying for Monkey Island gamer pictures and themes/wallpapers or whatever they're called you get them free with the game.

My 360 has been gathering dust for ages. The optical drive doesn't work. I had it fixed under warranty for free once before and then it broke a second time. Now they want £60.
I'd be paying for something that has been shown to be faulty by design (it has no safety mechanism). Great.
That's my Microsoft moan for the day over.

From what I've heard, there would be a graphic filter added in the 360 version. The question is : will it be worth compared to MI running with ScummVM and filters ?

How about the audio : will it be the Adlib sound, or will they put a better one like the MIDI ?

But the most important : will they really release it on Xbox 360, as most of the consoles versions of point'n click games are running on Wii or on DS ? Telltale was planning a 360 port of Sam'n Max seasons, and it had only be done on the Wii so far...

i would imagine that they announce it along with other point'n'click games when they introduce their rumored motion controller.

They will totally rework the game and insult swordfighting will be replaced by...swordfighting.
You'll have to hold a plastic replica of a sword that comes free with the motion detecting camera.

It has been announced, along with an episodic Monkey Island series!:
Gamespot wrote:In 2000, LucasArts released Escape from Monkey Island for the PC, putting the saga of Guybrush Threepwood (and in many ways the company's legacy of adventure gaming) behind it. Nearly a decade later, the publisher is returning to the shores of Monkey Island and it's bringing a friend with it. LucasArts today announced that it will release The Secret of Monkey Island Special Edition, a PC and Xbox 360 remake of the original 1990 game, and is teaming up with Telltale Games to produce all-new episodic installments in the series for PC and Wii.

This summer, the Special Edition version of the original game will give a new generation of gamers the chance to experience the humor-driven adventure game with a handful of alterations. First and foremost, the game is being given a high-definition 2D visual overhaul. (It's optional though, so players can switch between new and original graphics on the fly.) Additionally, LucasArts is including a new hint feature to prevent gamers from getting stuck and reinserting some "deleted scenes."

While the Special Edition revisits the original game, Tales of Monkey Island will contribute new chapters to the seminal simian adventure series. Starting later this year, five monthly chapters will tell yet another yarn about the ghost pirate LeChuck's undying feud with Threepwood. The game is in familiar hands, with a number of the development team having experience on previous Monkey Island games. Telltale is also no stranger to the episodic adventure game format, having produced Bone, Sam & Max, StrongBad, and most recently Wallace & Grommit series.

For more on the games, check out GameSpot's preview coverage of both Secret of Monkey Island Special Edition and Tales of Monkey Island.
Here we go, the first trailer for Tales of Monkey Island! (I've not even watched it yet as im downloading it, but I'm about to!)

Well, while Ron isn't directly involved, he was at Telltale headequarters for a few days and gave them directions. Also those people have worked on pretty much everything MI, so I trust it will be good.
Read this awesome blog post by Ron Gilbert for more details:

And the FAQs at Telltale:

One thing I'm also interested in: In the video on the MI remake page, someone says they worked with the original code, and also there is a feature, that you can seamlessly switch between old and new graphics. So, do you think, this thing runs on an updated Scumm engine?
