Monkey Island 2 Über-Edition

Ye, the problem with this is instead of doing this you can just as well make a whole new MI game altogether.
You would obviously need a new story board then but it would save you the trouble of making the 3D and the texture projection fit the old game.
If we are talking about a fan project then the best use of time would be to help Residual get MI4 support rolling instead of competing with LA for the better MI2 remake (because LA has MI2SE planned most probably). A lot less chance of of being sued that way too.
Don't get me wrong, the movie is cool. I'm just trying to do a reality check.

The video description kind of states it's nothing more than a concept, not a fan project, so we can all forget about such a remake ever happening.bobdevis wrote:If we are talking about a fan project then the best use of time would be to help Residual get MI4 support rolling instead of competing with LA for the better MI2 remake (because LA has MI2SE planned most probably). People usually make these videos to show what they're capable of and to get their foot through the door. Getting into gaming business and signing on with one of the big names is anything but easy. I guess a video like that kind of spices up the portfolio.
If LucasArts has plans for a remake of the second game, it will probably be something along the lines of the first one, but maybe this time they'll take the fan criticism towards the first remake into consideration.
As for Residual, the project could most definitely use more support. Unlike ScummVM which evolves constantly, Residual has been making very little progress, but hey, I'm not complaining. I know that people do this in their own, spare time, so I'm grateful for what I get.
Well, hopefully, LEC co-workers will read in fora like this one and pick up some feedback. About the video: I think it is a nice piece of work and the main purpose of the creator is to get some good references. I think that is even more important to him than getting the game redone in scurvy-inducing 3D.
OK blokes, here is another video:

I think, LucasArts have to engage that guy for the remake of MI2.

Probably having such a remake would be much more work than what had to be done for MI:SE. MI:SE did still use the old SCUMM scripts of the original, which might not be possible in a 3D version, thus it will be a *real* remake, not just updated graphics and sound. Thus I'm rather skeptical that LEC even would consider such a remake.Nikioko wrote:OK blokes, here is another video:

What I'm more interested about is how they would plan to update iMuse to work on a modern system. They would either have to use some MIDI synth, or maybe they manage to come up with a digital replacement.

I can't follow this comparison now though. GNOME is not a layer above Linux, it's just a 'program' (rather a set of programs) running under Linux.ezekiel000 wrote:Couldn't they just introduce a 3D layer on top of the original scumm? Like gnome is to linux?
For the SCUMM layer idea: of course scripted actions like "make actor go to position x/y" must be properly translated from 2D to 3D. That sounds non trivial in a generic way. Also I'm unsure in how far it's possible to do scripted drawing to the screen via SCUMM, proper handling of that might not be that easy either. Of course SCUMM internals are probably pretty much based for 2D graphics, thus all in all a "2D->3D" layer above it doesn't sound too realistic.
Anyway I would *bet* that a possible MI2 edition wouldn't be a full price product. And in my experience, while nowadays even some casual games (means games not meant for top hardware and the ultimate hardcore gamer) have sometimes a *ok* to fine 3D graphics, that might have impacts on the graphics quality. Personally I still prefer nice hand-drawn backgrounds + actors etc. over a *ok* 3D graphics.

Ok that was a daft example, I was thinking of GNOME as a way you interact with the Linux kernel just like you would with a bash shell or KDE. Different ways of poking it to get the same results.
Well if you are using the same play area with a fixed camera, then a 3D layer of graphics on top mimicking what the 2D graphics would do. I wasn't thinking of a change in the way MI2 is played or reacts. Anyway it was just an off the wall idea.
As for 3D vs 2D I'm not bothered as long as it immerses you in the world, ok 3D graphic can work if that's what the art style calls for.
