What kind of trouble? Is it that you can't get the save/load dialog to appear (use the journal), or does the trouble come after that (in which case I have no idea; I've never tried the Wii version).
If the problem is just to "type in" a savegame name, select "make entry" in FOTAQ, then press DPAD-down. That brings up the virtual keyboard. Or you can attach a USB keyboard
