So does anyone own Delphine's IP at all?

Post by marzipan »

I'm hoping that, one way or another, the legal issue regarding the copy protection in Future Wars et al will be sorted out, because I certainly can't envision carrying a whole bunch of original documentation (which is bound to be available only with boxed copies that'll likely cost a bomb on eBay) with me when I wish to play some FW on my DS during a bus or train journey. The whole "determine a colour out of a tiny paint speck" concept makes it even worse!

I have had a similar problem playing Day of the Tentacle on my DS. In some games the copy protection puzzles have been removed though. The problem is that in DOTT they incorporate the puzzle into the story, so it can't really be taken out.

In the ones we know were re-released with the copy protection disabled (LucasArts seems to have done that quite a bit), since there's no way to tell a version with copy protection from a one without. Or in one case (I think) where we had permission to remove it.

If I remember correctly it's in a puzzle involving the time-pod that is stranded in the past.
The puzzle was altered or deleted for the CD version of DOTT, probably because copying CD's yourself was expensive way back then.

I didnt know that. I have both the CD and the floppy versions. I just use the floppy version on my DS though as it (obviously) takes up much less room. I thought I saw the answers to that puzzle in my CD versions manual though... (I would check but I'm not at home)

EDIT: If I'm remembering correctly and the puzzle takes place when you give Dr Fred the plans, then it has indeed gone in the CD version.

Yes. Either the "successor" of Delphine or the original developers of the game.

And that "successor" would be?

Though good call on Cuisset/Chahi. Would be nice if someone could ask one of them at least if they know where FW et al officially is rights-wise.

Yeah maybe you should ask them when you're that much interested in it.

Contact addresses would be a nice thing to know in that case.

I am not aware that someone of the ScummVM team has any contact details, so I guess you would need to search for them on your own.

Maybe looking for former Doki Denki employees could be a good idea. afaik, they bought the rights on the games at the same time than the company (and bankrupted in the meantime). Finding the mail of de Senneville is not too complex...

Just a question: does Chahi maintain the AnotherWorld.fr site, or is that someone else's responsibility? There's an e-mail address that I could use but I don't know who's going to read my IP question on the other side. : P

that's the impression i get from reading the site - but you could always send an email asking if that's the case, before you start asking about the ip.
