I have recently purchased my first touch screen device since my Jornada 720 all those years ago; I now have a Touch Book. It has a detachable screen/tablet and there have already been successful installations of ScummVM on it. I can't wait to join in
I was trying to think of any drawbacks of controlling ScummVM with only a touch screen and couldn't come up with anything too drastic (if you know of any please let me know) so when I was talking to my little brother the other night about how cool SCUMMVM games will be on my Touch Book (as will all point and click games) I could only remark that my favourite lucasarts game, Full Throttle, would be tricky because the bike fighting is tricky without a mouse or arrow keys (I managed to get my copy running on my Nokia N73 and the bike fighting was the only disappointment ). Blow me down if he didn't come up with the obvious killer solution using the accelerometer to control the bike while tapping the screen to fight!
Would it be possible to get left and right control from the accelerometer? I can just picture "driving" the bike now
Has anyone else figured out a way to play Full Throttle on a Touch Screen device without using a mouse or keys?
I ask because my only other concern would be how to perform a right-click (eg. swap items). The TB has an "AI button" - a hardware button on the side of the tablet - could possibly be mapped for a right click. Or maybe clicking on the weapon will switch it I can't exactly remember. Heck while we are at it maybe a forward tilt/flick (accelerometer) could cycle weapons
There are probably other games (or mini-games within) that would be fun with some accelerometer/touch-screen support. Maybe there could be a way to toggle the accelerometer support?
None -> Left/Right -> Up/Down -> Left/Right/Up/Down -> None
Maybe touch screen users need some overlaid "buttons" at the edge of the screen to perform some functions?
I haven't been able to find any evidence of these type of controls currently existing but if they do please let me know.
I'm in no rush for these types of solutions (heck I haven't even loaded ScummVM on my TB yet!) and the advantages/disadvantages would need to be assessed as well as which games would benefit but if a solution does not exist and yet is possible (and viable), then it is something I'd be willing to put a bounty on.
Using an Accelerometer and Touch Screen to control the game
